There are so many opportunities that the city of Boston has granted me. As a senior at Boston University, I cannot stress enough that all students should take advantage of this wonderful city. Whether you’re new to Boston or a soon-to-graduate senior, it’s always a good time to start checking off that list of “things to do in college.” In no particular order, below is my list of the top five things to do in Boston before you graduate.
1. Go to the New England Aquarium
Your first thought may be, “Seeing penguins is cool and all, but totally not worth the $25 ticket!” Yes, admission to the New England Aquarium isn’t necessarily cheap for a college student, but it’s worth the price. There are awesome exhibits and always some cool sea creatures to see. Spend a Saturday with your roommates down near the Boston Harbor and take a trip to the aquarium!
2. Go ice skating at Frog Pond
‘Tis the season for ice skating! Surrounded by colorful Christmas lights and many trees, Frog Pond ice skating in the Boston Common is almost as cool as ice skating at Rockefeller Center in New York City. It costs $4 to skate and $9 for skate rentals. And when you get a little chilly out on the ice, there’s some hot cocoa for sale at the Pond Cottage next to the rink.
3. Go to a Red Sox game
Whether you’re a Red Sox fan or not, seeing a game at Fenway Park is essential, and the iconic park is conveniently located at the edge of BU’s campus. If you’re worried about the steep price (especially after the Red Sox won the 2013 World Series), don’t fret! The bleacher section seats usually sell for around $20 during the regular season games. Also, BU’s Student Activities Office (SAO) randomly gives out free tickets, so if you’re lucky enough to score those you can go for free!
4. Go kayaking on the Charles River
Instead of spending a lazy Sunday in your dorm room/apartment, get your roommates together and head over to Charles River Canoe & Kayak located in Kendall Square. Make sure you go on a clear and not so windy day – trust me, wind or not you’ll get a nice arm workout! You can rent a kayak, paddle out into the Charles River, and see some of the best views of Boston’s skyline – including BU buildings!
5. Get dinner at Top of the Hub
Whether you go during the day for lunch, in the evening for dinner, or at night for some after-dinner drinks, the Top of the Hub has one of the best panoramic views of the city of Boston. Located at the top of the Prudential Tower, it’s no wonder you can see the entire city out of the restaurants floor-to-ceiling windows. The food is awesome and the drinks are even better. You’ll probably end up spending a chunk of cash so be prepared!
