During my walks to class, I’ve felt a new chill in the air and noticed the leaves changing and birds chirping. The most wonderful time of year is fast approaching. No, not Christmas — but fall.
Fall is undoubtedly the best season, with sweaters, pumpkin spice lattes, and football filling my days; there’s truly nothing better. We’re halfway through the semester now that November is here, and many college students may still be feeling homesick and overwhelmed by midterms. All this stress and anxiety calls for one thing: a comforting show to help wind down. Here is my list of the best fall shows to watch, or rewatch, as the leaves start falling.
- The Vampire Diaries
-
If you want horror and spooky vibes, then watch my first recommendation: The Vampire Diaries. It’s a cult classic that I am guilty of rewatching every fall. The show follows teenage Elena Gilbert — a teenage girl who gets to live out our dreams of being in the middle of a complicated love triangle with two vampire brothers.
It will keep you on the edge of your seat while also grappling with real-life problems. No — not being attacked by vampires, witches, and werewolves daily — but serious topics as well. For example, dealing with grief, accepting growing up, becoming different people than we once were, and learning that every action has a consequence. This is one of my all-time favorite shows and the perfect watch this season.
- Gilmore Girls
-
Second is Gilmore Girls. You can never go wrong with the perfect fall classic. Gilmore Girls is the best show to turn on when you want to turn your brain off. It’s funny, peaceful, and an easy watch. The mother-daughter duo of Lorelai and Rory is the epitome of comfort. There’s barely any sadness and no horror or gore. Just fun everyday life of two people trying to do their best.
Warner Bros. Television - Supernatural
-
My last recommendation is Supernatural. I know it’s not very popular, but personally, it’s my go-to comfort show. This show is the perfect spooky vibe that won’t leave you with nightmares. Supernatural is about two brothers, Sam and Dean, who have dedicated their lives to hunting mythological creatures at night. Each episode is a different battle, but there is a great developing story woven into each one. It’s the perfect show to distract yourself because no matter how bad your day is, Sam is definitely having a worse one. That’s a level of comfort no money can buy.
So if you need an escape from the stress of life and really want to embrace the fall vibes, these shows are the way to go. All are more than five seasons and will take a decent amount of time to finish, making it easy to commit to watching at least one.
So grab the popcorn and your favorite blanket, and get ready to dive into the fall spirit.
