Now that I’m in my third year of living in Boston, I’d like to think I have great insight into the best places around the city to splurge for a sweet treat. Whether it’s for a beginning-of-the-week pick-me-up or a treat post midterms, these are the best places in Boston to satisfy your sweet tooth!
- The Scoop N Scootery
-
Who said you couldn’t still get ice cream in the winter?
Located in Allston near West Campus, The Scoop N Scootery is the top destination for an ice cream sundae in Boston. They have every type of ice cream you could possibly imagine, from an a la mode sundae with fresh-baked apple pie on top to a Java cake sundae with chocolate cake in the middle.
The first time I went, I took 20 minutes to order just because of how many different options they have. Not only is the menu huge, but the sundaes are so big that you’ll be sure to have plenty of leftovers!
- Bova’s Bakery
-
Skip the long lines at Modern and Mike’s Pastry and go to the real best bakery for cannolis in the North End at Bova’s! Tucked away from the crowds in a side street, Bova’s has an expansive bakery selection, including chocolate-covered strawberries, cakes, cookies, tiramisu, and of course, cannolis. They also sell breads, calzones, and arancini if you’re in the mood for something more savory.
It can be overwhelming to see all of the different options when you go inside, and the workers are quick to ask for your order, so prepare ahead of time by checking out their menu online! My go-to order is the Oreo Brick, which is a cookies-and-cream cake that is literally the size of a brick.
- Kyo Matcha
-
I tried this place for the first time last week after wanting to go for a long time, and I was extremely impressed!
Kyo Matcha is located on Beacon Street near South Campus, and is mainly known for its matcha drinks and boba tea. However, their desserts are what stood out to me. They have a variety of different small cakes, including crepes, cheese mousse, and roll cakes. There’s also matcha soft-serve ice cream, which was as good as it sounds!
I’ll definitely be coming back to try more of their stuff soon, and you should too.
- Far Out Ice Cream
-
Another great ice cream spot in Boston is the unusual New Zealand-style ice cream at Far Out. New Zealand-style ice cream is unique because real fruit is blended into the ice cream when it is made. The dessert at Far Out is completely customizable, so you can pair any base flavor and fruits that you want, and they’ll blend your creation right in front of you.
The original location is in Coolidge Corner, but they just opened a new location at Time Out Market near Fenway Campus!
- Levain Bakery
-
Be prepared to wait in line for a bit at this popular New York-based cookie shop!
I first tried Levain in New York and loved it, so I was thrilled to find out there was a location on Newbury Street in Boston. Levain’s cookies are famous for a reason. The chocolate chip walnut cookie is delicious and has such a gooey center if you get it when it’s right out of the oven. They’re also huge in size, so it’s perfect to share with a friend! I highly recommend Levain if you’re looking for a treat after a long day of shopping on Newbury.
I HOPE these spots satisfy your sweet tooth!
