The Single Girl’s Guide to Valentine’s Day (Part II)

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

Last year I wrote my very first article for Her Campus BU, “The Single Girls’ Guide To Valentine’s Day.” In it, I discussed my recent breakup and ways to avoid the sadness that comes with “Singles Awareness Day.” I offered distractions from a broken heart, rather than activities for an open one.

Now I have a new outlook on this Hallmark-created holiday, being single can be fun! There are so many great things to do in Boston this February 14th. Plus, with no more sulking and sadness in the wake of a breakup, I am free to explore the city (and all its potential suitors). Several V-Day events are happening this Thursday, perfect for young single Bostonians. Hit up a club, bar, or party with some friends and celebrate your youth!

If you’re under 21, or are not interested in the party scene, I suggest you go to a movie with some friends. Interested in a romantic comedy? Try the award winning, Silver Linings Playbook. How about an action flick? Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone star in Gangster Squad– and who doesn’t want to spend Valentine’s Day with Ryan Gosling? Or if you’re looking to escape romance all together, Identity Thief comes out this week, starring the hilarious Melissa McCarthy, from Bridesmaids.

For those of you who are more inclined to stay home on Thursday, a spa night could be just what you need. Add wine and a Sex and the City marathon for a great night in. Not only is SATC one of my absolute favorite shows, but also it is catered specifically to single women. You can spend your night in alone, enjoying your own company, or invite over some close friends to share in the experience.

Ladies, celebrate being single on Valentine’s Day. Cherish having no attachments, asserting your independence, and avoiding lovers’ spats. Appreciate the money you will save not buying flowers, chocolates, and cards that will eventually be thrown out. Life is your candy store, and right now boys are for flirting and fun. Revel in being young, single, and in the city!

V-Day Events:

·      Pikapalooza: Cupid’s Garage

BU’s Pi Kappa Alpha is throwing a party on the 14th for both couples and singles at Garage Lounge Boston. This 21+ event will have drinks, food, and live electronic music. The perfect upbeat gathering for anyone on Valentine’s Day!

·      Flirt Fest

Head over to The Bell In Hand Tavern for some more 21+ Valentine’s Day fun. Boston Event Guide will be crowning “Boston’s Biggest Flirt” from nominations in both male and female categories. The cost is $15 and there will be over $1,000 in prizes.

·      Valentine’s Day Party @ Throwed Boston

For singles 18 and over, Throwed is hosting a Valentine’s Day party at Tommy Doyle’s in Cambridge. Wear pink or red and come ready to dance your V-Day away!
