To many, Thanksgiving is the holiday of turkey, pumpkin pie, and cranberry sauce. But, in reality, it is the single day of the year that we are encouraged as a society to reflect on what we have.

In the whirlwind of the Thanksgiving holiday, I find that we lose focus of what the day truly means. Society’s understanding of the holiday can be easily swayed and sometimes makes us all lose focus. Thanksgiving is when we reflect on what we have and remember why we are all sitting around that dinner table with the people we love.

After such a holiday of thankfulness, we should all be a little more aware of what we have and those around us. We shouldn’t leave the thankfulness in the day of Thanksgiving.  The day should remind us that we need to be grateful for what we have yearlong.

Approaching the upcoming holiday season, I like to remind myself of how fortunate I am and that I should be thankful every single day: Thankful, regardless of how I may be feeling or what small thing might have gone wrong in my life.

Tell your friends and family you appreciate and love them. Be thankful every day, beyond the Thanksgiving hype.
