Rachel first decided that she wanted to attend BU in her pre-teen days. She was on a camp trip and when she saw Boston University’s campus, she had a feeling that she would end up here. Well, Rachel’s gut was correct. But she never could have predicted what an integral part of campus life she would become.
Becoming a new member of Sigma Delta Tau, the Vice President of West Campus, Boston University Senator, and now the chair of the student life committee, it’s a wonder Rachel even has time to be a student here. Although the week may get cluttered with meetings and visits to the RHA student government office, on weekends she spends most of her time with her friends in Sleeper Hall, attending hockey games, trying out new restaurants, exploring Newbury street, or finding little Boston adventures.
Choosing to be a part of the student government was an easy decision for Rachel. She has always been passionate, wanting to create a positive impact on the school. At this point, Rachel is one of the only freshmen involved, since others needed some time to get adjusted to their life at BU before taking on large time commitments such as this. She says, “I wanted to become a voice for the freshmen.” In fact, she was so enthusiastic about this idea that she went door to door, greeting everyone in Rich, Sleeper, and Claflin Hall before the elections, an incredibly bold decision.
“A little crazy- I know, but it did help me form a connection with the students who I wanted to represent.”
Her biggest accomplishment at BU so far has been obtaining these student government positions, so every bold move has only been a great stride forward for Rachel. She has been able to easily adjust to student life, with grace and a sense of responsibility.
Considering her parents’ role models, she grew up in a loving and close-knit environment, with best friends like sisters and her sister as her best friend. She beams, “I am who I am today because of their guidance.” If friends and family are what gave Rachel the fuel towards her success, we could all use a little more support!
