New York Fashion Week: The Recap

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

With New York Fashion Week just finishing up, a recap is in order to discuss what was seen on the runway this year. The fall 2012 collections were shown from all the great labels like Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, Rebecca Minkoff, DVF and more. Every runway show added a new trend for fall, and below is your recap to help you look out for the newest trends.

1.Gold Accents
Gold was everywhere this year on the runway, in skirts, dresses, bags you name it.
Gold is one of those colors that works for both day and night attire and designers like J.Mendel (left), Michael Kors (middle) and Tory Burch (right) incorporated gold seamlessly.

2. Metallic
Another trend to look out for this fall is metallic.
Designers like Tibi (left) and Rebecca Minkoff (right) combined the bold fabric with minimalistic items: simple t-shirts and accessories, letting the metallic designs have a moment to shine.

3. Fur
While fall 2012 may seem like a long way off, designers were not shy about preparing for the cold and did so by adding fur to their coats this season.
Designers like Michael Kors (left) and J.Mendel (right) added fur to these knits to make oversized coats in the chicest way possible. Crazy risk taker Betsey Johnson (center) went for the boldest look of all and made her fur accents neon pink to give her designs that extra spice.

4. Brown and Red
Finally, it’s official: This season, brown and red are the new black and white.
While red has always been a staple color on the runway, this year designers mixed it with brown in pant suits like Diane Von Furstenberg’s (left) or in a dress like Marc by Marc Jacobs (right).

Can’t wait to see what all the other great fashion cities have to show!
