My Favorite Things About the Month Between Christmas and Thanksgiving

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

With Christmas less than a month away, Christmas lovers around the world prepare for the gift giving season.  However, we’ve all felt the after-Christmas-blues in which the magic of Christmas disappears. There are several reasons why the month between Thanksgiving and Christmas is my favorite time of year, but here are my top 5 reasons.

1. School Breaks

There’s no better feeling than returning to your home after a long semester’s worth of hard work. Whether it’s for a few days in November to stuff your belly at Thanksgiving, or for a whole month in December, being home for break is so refreshing.

2. Getting Hyped for Christmas

The weeks in between Thanksgiving and Christmas are simply the best because stores, homes, restaurants, and people begin decorating for the jolly holiday. The streets are filled with wreaths and string lights, while people slip into their favorite ugly Christmas sweater. Target’s holiday section spreads the cheer through the whole store as its talking Santa and four foot tall reindeer catch all shopper’s eyes.

3. So. Much. Food.

The amount of food that I eat during the holidays is worrisome. Safe to say, it’s easy for me to get my winter body with all of the cookies, heavy meals, and hot chocolate I consume during this time of year. It’s all absolutely worth it.

4. The Delicious Smell of Christmas Trees

There is nothing that puts you into the holiday spirit more than placing a real Christmas tree inside of your home, or lighting a Christmas tree scented candle. Yankee Candle here I come.

5. The Movies

One of the best pastimes during the holiday season is snuggling on the couch and watching movies: everything from Elf and the Polar Express to White Christmas and A Christmas Story. It’s almost impossible to hate the heart-warming tales of our favorite Christmas movies.

Whether you celebrate Christmas or just enjoy the spirited atmosphere, we can all agree the time leading up to Christmas is as magical as the day itself. The holiday season is about sharing love and peace, and as finals creep around the corner I’m sure we could all use the support.
