February came and went by very fast— at least it did for me. With the crazy cold temperatures and snow days we had in Boston, it allowed me to stay inside more than usual and listen to more music. So as this short, love-filled month comes to an end, I’d like to recommend some songs that I found myself listening to over and over again.

 Dorothy – Her’s

This song is able to grab anyone’s attention within seconds— it’s punchy beat and lovely vocals are designed to make someone dance their heart out. I’ve been a fan of Her’s for a little bit, but this song never came to my radar until now. There’s something more to love about it with every re-listen.

Take Off Ur Pants – Indigo De Souza

I have heard about Indigo De Souza, but I haven’t gone out of my way to listen to any of their tracks. “Take Off Ur Pants” popped up on my Discover Weekly and there’s something about it that enchanted me. It’s lyrics are pretty simple, but the instrumental and build-up are things that still take my breath away. I’ll definitely be listening to more of their material from here on out.

Silk Chiffon – MUNA, Phoebe Bridgers

Although a pretty pop-y sound, it’s one of those songs that you love singing to by yourself in your room, dancing carelessly. The collaboration works really well, though this is not necessarily Phoebe Bridgers’ typical style. The chorus is definitely a highlight for me.

Was It Something I Said – MyKey

I think this is a perfect song to listen to when you need to study or relax. It’s perfect for reading, too, as it has a melody that’s easy to flow with, especially with the vocals being very soft and calming. It’s a song that definitely reminds me of spring and how much I cannot wait until it arrives.

August – Flipturn

Speaking of the seasons, this song embodies the transition from spring to summer; the beginning of the song has a pretty, twinkling sound that is quickly juxtaposed with the booming sound of drums and explosion of sound from the vocalist. Again, it makes me wish we were already out of winter in order to get the full experience of this song: walking through nature in the sunshine.

These are just a few great tracks I found this month. Give these songs at least one listen if you haven’t already. Finding new, unknown music is like finding treasure on a remote island. It makes it even better when I can share some of my greatest finds with others!

Going into March, when the cold will (hopefully) subside and the trees will no longer be bare, I want to find even more great music to get me into the spring mood.
