College can be tough. For most of us, we move to an entirely new place with all new people and we’re on our own for the first time. We have to learn how to do laundry, make sure we’re eating three meals a day and geting ourselves up for classes each morning.
I had a rough time adjusting my first few days. There was a lot of crying and calling my mom begging to go home. But then I met my little college family. Some of them live on my floor, some in my building, and some on the other side of campus. But I love them all and I don’t think I would have made it through my first couple of months without them. They’ve let me cry and complain. We work on chemistry together, grab Panera and freak out over boys together (JANELLE I’M SHOOK AND DECEASED AND TRIGGERED). They’re the people I laugh with until my stomach hurts and the people I’m up with until 3 am on the weekends. They’re my little family.
I went home for Columbus Day weekend and I thought I wasn’t going to miss BU because I was only home for three days. But I was wrong. I found myself waking up expecting to see Daniella on the other side of the room and Caroline and Katie in the hallway. I expected to run into Leticia and Julia in the dining hall and I expected to have dinner plans with Emma and Janelle. I missed my college family. When I’m having a hard time, I can count on them to be there for me.
They’ve been a huge factor in my adjustment.
So dear college family,
Emma and Janelle: You guys may live on West Campus, but I’d go there and across the whole world for you two (don’t push it with Australia Janelle). We’ve been a squad for six months, but it feels like forever. Whether it’s Chipotle dates, dealing with Barb, going to hockey games, grabbing late night seltzer at Warren, navigating our way through New York, chatting about our ridiculous cheese obsessions, or being goals because we work together at TJ Maxx, you girls are my rocks.
P.S. Boys. Panera. Cheese. Hockey. That is all.
Leticia, Julia, Caroline and Katie:  I can honestly say I’ve never met anyone like you guys, and it’s one of the many reasons I love you all. Thank you for being my second moms, my musical connoisseurs, and for living on our floor even though you don’t really live there. From our Warren dinner dates to playing Mario Kart and eating Reese’s Pieces, you guys always keep me laughing (even when I’m perpetually sick and being sprayed with Lysol).
Daniella: Well you got your own article beacuse I want to thank you for being the best roommate ever. I love our late night conversations about literally anything, our Jewish parody dances and pretty much everything else we do together. And thank you for the cupcake, it was delicious. I couldn’t have asked for a better roommate or friend.
While I have a good amount of friends here – and I am eternally thankful for all of them – these seven girls have been there for me since our first days here as clueless freshmen. And I love them so much it’s crazy. Its only been two months, but it feels like it’s been a lifetime.
So from the bottom of my heart, thank you. Thank you for making college amazing. Thank you for letting me be loud and crazy, for letting me complain and for eating dinner with me every night. Thank you for being you and thank you for letting me be me and still loving me.
Love always,
Arianna
