I’m not a huge fan of electronic music, which is constantly played at today’s parties and clubs. In fact, I barely have any in my iTunes library. However, a friend of mine, DJ/producer Des McMahon, recently turned me on to a type of electronic music that I actually like: trap music. In the words of McMahon, “Trap music today is a rebirth of dirty south rap instrumentals that emphasize 808 kick drums, sharp snares, and hectic hi hat lines.” In simpler terms, trap music combines the electronic dance music that people of my generation love so much with dirty, street hip-hop (my personal favorite) to make something that appeals to a wider audience. Check out these 6 tracks on YouTube or SoundCloud to see what all the fuss is about.
