Let’s be honest: half of us only know certain NFL players because of their wives or girlfriends, aka “WAGs,” that dominate our TikTok FYPs and Instagram stories. And honestly? No shame — even though I do love watching a good game of football for the skill.
Watching football “for the WAGs” basically feels like supporting the influencers we already love, and their content creation is just another way they can support their significant others. These women have big personalities and can play a game of going viral better than any of their partners.
Whether it’s their gameday outfits, their adorable couple moments, or their magnetic personalities, fans can’t get enough. They’re taking over the spotlight; the internet just cannot look away! At this point, it’s less “who does he play for?” and more, “oh, he’s with your favorite influencer.”
From the fashion creators and the lifestyle vloggers, to the women who unintentionally launch entire fandoms, these WAGs are giving people a whole new reason to tune in. And speaking of fan favorites, let’s start with the one who has everyone buzzing.
Anne Michael Maye has quickly become the jewel of New England Patriots fandom after marrying quarterback Drake Maye this past June, following 10 years of dating. TikTok has lovingly nicknamed her the “Queen of the North,” and the title fits. Fans adore her vlogs, cooking videos, and especially her recent “BakeMas” challenge that even New England personalities like Dave Portnoy have joined in on.
Anne and Drake have that high-school-sweetheart charm that has fans reminiscing about the Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen era. Her gameday treats and wholesome lifestyle content consistently draw comments like, “Gisele would never,” proving Anne Michael Maye has won over the internet just by being her authentic self.
Another standout in the WAG universe is Kristin Juszczyk, wife of San Francisco 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk. Kristin has turned the stands into her personal runway with her custom-designed gameday outfits, some of which she has even made for Taylor Swift and Brittany Mahomes. She’s merged fashion, football, and girl code flawlessly. Rival teams on the field? Maybe. Rival outfits? Not on Kristin’s watch.
Speaking of gameday fashion, although they have broken up, Alix Earle continuously brought her signature chaotic-sister energy to NFL Sundays while cheering on her boyfriend, Houston Texans wide receiver Braxton Berrios. Her gameday “get ready with me” videos, complete with arguments with her self-appointed stylist, Ashtin Earle, have brought major attention to Braxton, even when he hasn’t been the most recognizable name on the roster. The Alix Earle effect is real.
Next on the list is Allison Kucharczyk, better known as Allison Kuch. She built an entire fanbase sharing what it’s like having an NFL player as your partner. Even though her husband, Isaac Rochell, has since retired, her vlogs and skits remain fan favorites. Whether she’s poking fun at NFL fame, giving a behind-the-scenes look at their life, or showing the emotional lows, the duo continues to win hearts with their comedy.
And last but certainly not least: Taylor Swift. Karma may be the guy on the Chiefs, but it’s also the people still hating on Taylor for…being happy? While some football fans complain about how often the cameras pan to her cheering for fiancé Travis Kelce, Swifties and reasonable humans know it’s simply iconic.
As a lifelong NFL fan and proud Swifite, I personally love the crossover. If anything, watching someone get their real-life Love Story is half the fun. I mean, she did call it years ago: “You’ll be 87, I’ll be 89….” Tell me that isn’t fate and that she didn’t deserve the prophecy to be changed.
Sure, I am all for team loyalty and couldn’t ever imagine rooting for someone other than the Giants, but I love her support for Travis, even if it contradicts the Eagles fandom she grew up in.
So, as we continue cheering on the women who make us care about the men on the field, a few very important questions remain. What will Anne Michael Maye bake next? Who will be the next WAG to take over our feeds? And most importantly, whose boyfriend are we collectively adopting into the influencer universe next?
One thing’s for sure: the NFL has never been this fun for the girls.
