Meet Campus Cutie “Nubian Dynamite”

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

This week’s Campus Cutie is Nebe Betre. She is a member of the Class of 2018, she makes her eyewear a fashion statement, and she can point out people on Comm. Ave. and list off their Late Night Kitchen orders. This cutie is a social-dynamite! If you can take the heat, read on to get to know more about Nebe through a series of selfies.

1. Hometown:

I’m from Frisco, Texas, which is a suburb of Dallas.

2. Major:

I study broadcast journalism.

3. What appealed to you at BU and ultimately made you decide to move to Boston?

I was looking at New York, originally, but the city was too fast for me. When I was moving my sister into college in Cambridge, I got to see Boston and visit BU. I immediately knew that [BU] was where I wanted to go to school. I loved all the opportunities BU had to offer, especially, the broadcast journalism program in COM. I applied ED!

4. Clubs/Activities:

I am part of the on-campus broadcasting station, butv10, working as a producer for the daily show, “The Wire.” I am the secretary of the African Students Organization and an Admissions Ambassador, giving tours for prospective students.

5. As a tour guide for BU, what’s a fun fact that you tell?

The superstition of the University seal is always a good one.

6. When you wake up in the morning, what do you most look forward to getting out of the day?

I look forward to “The Wire.” I love all things broadcast. I enjoy spreading the news to everyone and my peers.

7. Best moment at BU:

Helping with butv10’s live coverage of the 2014 Midterm Elections. I felt important to be in the studio. It showed me what BU can do on a large scale.

8. Fun class:

I love history. I took HI 280, which covered the protest movements in history. In class we talked about social aspects throughout history and I liked that the material mixed the social side with the political.

9. Bad class:

Stats.

10. Favorite on-campus spot to study:

The third floor of GSU: Dean’s Lounge

11. Favorite campus eatery:

Cranberry Farms in GSU (Order: BBQ pulled pork), Late Night Kitchen (Order: everything), Cheesology in GSU (Order: buffalo chicken)

12. Favorite type of food:

Mexican. There’s none here. (Laughs).

13. Ways to relax:

Netflix and chill

14. Favorite show(s) and movie(s):

Oh my gosh. I watch like 13 shows!

Monday: Jane The Virgin

Tuesday: The Voice, The Flash

Wednesday: Arrow, Supernatural, Empire

Thursday: Shondaland, all three shows (Grey’s, Scandal, & How To Get Away

And…that’s it.

15. Since you watch a number of sci-fi/superhero shows, what would your ninja warrior name be?

Ooh, that’s a good question. My name would be…Nubian Dynamite.

16. Superpower?

I’m in between teleportation and mind control

17. If you invented time travel, where would you go first?

I would go back to April 14, 1865 and stop John Wilkes Booth from assassinating Lincoln.

18. What’s one thing you miss about Texas?

My mom and Whataburger

19. If you were stuck on the Green Line, what is one thing you would want to have in your bag?

My phone. Besides that, I would have the book Team of Rivals by Doris Kearns Goodwin. It’s about the Lincoln administration— I’m in love with Abraham Lincoln—I was given the book two years ago and it’s filled with posted notes. It’s very beaten up, but it feels good when I hold it.

20. Speaking of rivals, who would you pick a Twitter Battle with?

Generally, if I don’t like a celebrity, I just don’t care for him or her. But, I could take some people down. I would pick Carly Fiorina or Taylor Swift.

21. I know you love Beyoncé. Do you prefer early 2000s Beyoncé Knowles or do you say “hey” all day to Ms. Carter 2015?

As a person, I like 2015 Beyoncé. Music wise, I can sing to the early 2000s. Her new music is cool, but I don’t have the rhythmic timing to keep up with the lyrics.

22. Last question: Describe your college experience or BU in three words:

My Best Decision or Always Besting Bitches.
