Mad about Mad Men

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

Do you crave television shows with drama, scandals and romance? Want to time-warp back into the 1960s? Most importantly– do you love Jon Hamm? If you can successfully concur with all of these questions, you should be watching Mad Men.

Mad Men takes place in New York City in the 1960s, following the life of Donald Draper (Jon Hamm) and his role as director of the creative department at the swanky advertising agency, Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce. Although a great deal of the show explores the advertising industry during this era in American history, what really makes the show addicting are the provocative affairs that take place after work hours.

The scandals that make Mad Men so spectacular happen both at the office and in the homes of the characters. Although the series main character is Don Draper, the lives and affairs of many other characters are also explored, giving the show a truly three-dimensional plot.

The seventh season of Mad Men premiered on AMC this past sunday, April 13. Marking the final season of the hit series, many fans will be sad to see the show come to an end. However, the sadness can be postponed by the excitement and curiosity of what will happen in the season seven episodes to come.

If you haven’t started Mad Men, have no fear! The first six seasons are all available on Netflix. If you are looking for a new show to start, this show should be the front-runner. It’s simply addicting, and actually sheds light on the revolutionary era of the 1960s for America.
