Life Lessons You Can Learn From Watching Camp Rock

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

…WORLD IN YOUR POCKET AND YOU KNOW IT!

Everyone knows Camp Rock was the BEST music camp in history. With iconic song and dance numbers, we all wanted to join in with Demi and the Jo Bros. Behind the EPICness that was Camp Rock, there were a ton of meaningful life lessons you could learn from the campgoers. Here are a few:

You can be whoever you want. There are so many possibilities and you can do anything!

See: The entire “Who Will I Be?” and “Here I Am” songs.

Being a diva won’t get you anywhere.

And neither will being mean. Take it from Tess Tyler.

You don’t have to try hard to be “cool.”

Everyone thinks Tess is so cool, but she’s really just rich and mean. Mitchie misses out on a really fun summer with people who like her by trying to be friends with Tess. She realizes by the end that she would have had a way better time if she just was her own person and hung out with Caitlyn and the crew.

Always be confident in who you are.

If you’re not having fun, you’re not doing what you should be doing.

Mitchie has an awful time all summer being one of Tess’ background singers. She only truly has an amazing time when she embraces life and breaks out on her own to do what she loves.

Pre-pubescent, squeaky Jonases are LIFE.

I think Shane still owes Jamie that birdhouse…

Take advantage of any and all opportunities that are put in front of you.

If Mitchie didn’t take advantage of being able to sing *after* final jam, she would never have been able to sing with Shane, and she never would have realized her true potential.

Don’t let people walk all over you – stand up for yourself.

Stand up for yourself, and your friends. If you let people put you down, you’ll never be able to shine on your own.

Don’t lie to lift yourself up.

“It’s crazy and immature,” according to Mitchie’s friend Caitlyn. She’s right—you won’t get anywhere in life if you lie all the time. People will eventually find out.

Don’t be ashamed of anything.

Never apologize for who you are. Don’t be afraid to be crazy, sing in front of a room full of people, and don’t be afraid to follow your dreams. Those who mind, don’t matter, and those who matter, don’t mind.

There is so much more to you than meets the eye.

Mitchie had no idea what she was capable of doing the whole summer she was at Camp Rock. Everyone saw her potential, but she had to break free and see for herself what she really could do.

Music is a great emotional outlet.

“When the music calls, you’ve got to answer.” – Brown Cessario

Seriously, why couldn’t we go to Camp Rock?
