Jessica Adam (SMG ’16)

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

Being a young, female entrepreneur is admirable and impressive. For this week’s Campus Celebrity, it is also incredibly sweet. Jessica Adam (CGS ’14/ SMG ’16) studies finance here at BU, was her pledge class president (and current member) of Alpha Epsilon Phi, and is the event planner for the Lebanese Club. On top of her active involvement in BU clubs and organizations, outside of the University Jessica is also building her scrumptious business. This Celeb founded Beachside Bakers, a deliciously-adorable cupcake business.

Beachside Bakers, as the company name suggests, is influenced by Jessica’s love for baking and the beach. Every summer, Jessica and her family vacation on the beaches in Gloucester, MA. Jessica has always loved baking, and many of her hobbies revolve around the beach, such as sailing. Jessica was able to find a way to combine her interests into a thriving company.

In July of 2010, Jessica, with the help of her sister, Sara Adam and family friend Caitlin Coates of CT, began baking for their friends, family, and the local yacht club at the beach. Hungry for more, the girls wanted to “Take their hobby to a higher level” Jessica said. With a passion for sweet treats and salty ocean, Beachside Bakers cupcake company became a reality.

“We’ve always loved baking. People love our designs, and we love experimenting with new flavors and patterns,” Jessica said. “Cupcakes make people happy and we like to make people happy!” Although many of the cupcakes are beach-themed, the company does take custom orders.

Beachside Bakers’ business flourished. Jessica and her partners began selling their cupcakes at the Cape Ann Farmers Market in Gloucester, which led them to become involved with TAG. The “Teen Artist Guild,” enabled Jessica to gain important entrepreneurship skills and get Beachside Bakers name out in the community.

The Beachside Bakers cupcake business has been incredibly successful since its

founding. Jessica and her sister teach cupcake decorating classes to pre-teens in their hometown, Andover, MA, through the Andover Department of Community Services. They hold spring classes, a special Valentine’s Day cupcake decorating class, and also have expanded the business to do birthday parties. Beachside Bakers has made cupcakes for Woodman’s seafood restaurant in Essex, MA, and has also been contacted by Vineyard Vines to make cupcakes for their company.

At BU, Jessica has promoted her business and made cupcakes for several Greek Life events, such as the Sigma Chi Derby Day cake competition, and her sorority’s philanthropy event, A Phine Affair.
