If You’re On the Hunt for Netflix Documentaries

When you’ve been binging a series on Netflix and are looking for something fresh to watch, the documentary section is the perfect place to turn to. Well-produced documentaries not only have the power to tell a compelling story, but shine a light on a particular topic. While they can be entertaining in an informative way, they are intriguing in their ability to keep viewers curious and intellectually stimulated.

  1. 1. Diagnosis

This documentary series, made in collaboration with The New York Times is a must-watch if you are interested in medical shows. Based on the column of Yale’s Dr. Lisa Sanders, the show explores mystery and rare diagnoses. She uses the incredible power of crowdsourcing to find these patients’ diagnoses.

  2. 2. Fyre

Probably one of the most talked-about Netflix documentaries, Fyre uncovers the scandal that is the Fyre Festival. The documentary reveals, from start to finish, how this became “the greatest party that never happened.”

  3. 3. Homecoming

On the more entertaining end, Homecoming is Beyonce’s concert film dedicated to her performance at Coachella. If you’re a Beyonce fan, this is a must-watch: especially because she wrote and produced the entire thing.

  4. 4. American Factory

This honest and eye-opening documentary follows the story of a Chinese company that reopens the shutdown General Motors Plant in Ohio. It takes the strong perspective of Chinese factory workers working the revival, and their thoughts on the United States.

  5. 5. The Great Hack

This documentary focuses on the story of Cambridge Analytica and how it used Facebook to disseminate targeted ads to sway undecided voters. Specifically, it looks at Analytica’s actions in relation to the 2016 election.

  6. 6. Studio 54

This documentary takes a deep dive into the infamous New York City nightclub and what was behind its glittery image. It brings you right into the scene and takes you through the 70’s club’s wild history.

  7. 7. Abducted In Plain Sight

When watching this documentary, you will find yourself asking how a story this wild could be real. It follows the story of a girl named Jan and her repeated abduction by a predator—who happens to be a family friend and neighbor—and how her parents remained unaware.

Netflix’s variety when it comes to documentaries is amazing. Each piece having a different genre and style, this list is bound to keep you entertained, intrigued, and often surfing the docu section.
