How to Work AND Make Travel a Part of Your Summer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

Ah, the benefits of being in college. Nap time, a meal plan, and housing like StuVi2. One of the most overlooked benefits of being in college is the freedom we have to change our lives every three months! You could spend one semester in Boston, one abroad, and then head back home for the summer. We also have the freedom to travel—winter break, spring break and of course summer!

However, we get it. Making time between jobs and the coveted internship is hard. But with a little bit of work you could work and make travel a part of your summer

  1. Use your time and resources creatively. Even if your internship lasts for 10 weeks, that still leaves you a little bit of time before and at the end of summer to get away! Use those weeks to pile your friends into a car and take a road trip! Planning ahead to when everyone will be free will ensure all your friends can make the trip—a great way to end a hard working summer! Make it cheaper by splitting the cost for gas, food etc!
  2. Utilize BU Study AbroadSo you want to be in a new city but you also want to have an internship this summer. Ugh decisions! However, BU makes it easier by offering study abroad programs during the summer that offer both classes and internships. Better yet, BU helps you search for internships—phew!
  3. Okay so maybe not this summer. But make a pact for next summer! Maybe it is too late to break out your passport for this summer. But make a commitment to save 10% of what you make this summer to apply for a fun trip for next summer (maybe a nice Contiki tour?) You’re only young once—open up your perspective now!
