Excited to soon be leaving for your semester abroad but dreading the packing? This is definitely a common feeling. The thought of packing up for four months in two suitcases seems nearly impossible, as most are able to fill one of these suitcases for a week long vacation. Here are some tips to relieve the daunting task:
· SPACE-SAVER BAGS: These vacuum-sealed bags will save your life. Depending on your living situation, you might have to bring your own bedding. Even if bedding is being provided for you, chunky sweaters and scarfs can take up a lot of room if you are heading to a cold weather location. These items can easily take up one full suitcase. Luckily for us, space-saver bags were invented. By neatly folding your items inside, you vacuum seal these bags shut and save an incredible amount of room in your suitcase.
· HEELS: Unlike your closet in college, it is not necessary to bring 8 pairs of heels abroad. Pick and choose two or three pairs that will match with the most outfits. Also keep in mind you might do more walking in your heels than you might back at school, so make sure to take comfort in as a factor.
· COAT: Even if you are heading to a relatively warm weather location, bring a coat. There will always be those chilly days and who knows where your travels will take you. It is better to be safe than sorry! If you are heading to a location where you need a heavy down coat, definitely wear it on the plane. Do not bother packing it; it is a waste of space and not an extra charge to bring it on the plane.
· SMALL ROLLING SUITCASE: This should be your carry-on for the plane. You will love having the small suitcase while abroad because it is great for weekend trips. There will not be someone there to carry your suitcase while traveling and shoulder suitcases become heavy quickly.
· BRING ESSENTIAL BEAUTY/BATHROOM PRODUCTS WITH YOU: Upon arriving to your destination, you will not want to deal with finding all the essential products you need. Bring those ones with you and that way you know you will have them, especially because the brands sold differ across the globe. Those random products, which you do not need upon arrival, can be filled in along the way.
With these tips in mind, good luck with packing!!!
