It’s officially autumn in Boston, and the city is bustling with the business of school and falling leaves. When school and life start to become busier, it’s still important to take time for yourself and embrace the season of change while it’s still above freezing temperatures. Here are five things you can do to enjoy fall to the fullest in Boston!
- Visit Acorn Street
-
Located in Boston’s Beacon Hill neighborhood, Acorn Street is a popular tourist destination. It features a rich history, stunning views, and serves as a perfect backdrop for a fall-themed photoshoot. In between photo-ops, Beacon Hill’s extensive history and gorgeous architecture is a fun time for everyone!
- Go To A Pumpkin Patch
-
There’s no better way to celebrate fall than with some pumpkins! Venture a bit beyond the city’s walls to Wilson Farm Inc, a family-owned farm and pumpkin patch just north of Cambridge in Lexington, MA. This farm is accessible through MBTA buses and has a wide variety of pumpkin-filled exhibits, as well as fresh cider and donuts, a farmers market, and a playground for all ages to enjoy.Â
If you’re looking for some pumpkin-related fun within the city, look no further than Cityside Pumpkin Patch in Seaport, Boston. Cityside collaborated with Island Creek Raw Bar to provide a farm-esque experience for all Bostonians right in the city this fall. Entry is ticketed, but there are plenty of pumpkin exhibits and fun vendors to try.
- Walk The Esplanade
-
The Charles River and the surrounding trees offer some of the best views in Boston, and it’s both entirely free of cost and easily accessible from multiple parts of the city. As the leaves start to change into shades of bright yellow, red, and orange, take a stroll down the esplanade and enjoy the calmness of the river and the beautiful scenery before temperatures drop too low.
- Go Apple Picking
-
Apples are a fall staple, especially in the Northeast. Head to a local orchard to pick your own, or visit a neighboring farmers market to collect them there. Honeypot Hill Orchards is a popular spot about 45 minutes outside the city, as it offers a wide variety of pick-your-own fruits and a fun fall atmosphere.Â
Though currently under renovation, Allendale Farms in Jamaica Plain is still up and operating, and it’s a lovely small farm located inside the city. Both of these places have attached markets if heading into the orchards isn’t your style, and are creative ways to enjoy nature and get some good produce this fall.
- Fall Markets
-
When the sun is shining and there isn’t any ice on the ground yet, there’s sure to be some sort of pop-up market or fair in Boston. From vintage clothing to books to short films, there is always something happening in Copley Square, Government Center Plaza, or the Public Garden. These markets provide chances not only to shop, but to connect with local vendors and find people with similar interests. While there isn’t a set site for every pop-up fair, many Instagram accounts post about similar events.Â
Though fall in Boston symbolizes the coolness of the long winter to come, it is one of the most beautiful and busy times in the city.
enjoy it in any way you can!
