Fenway Summer Concert Series

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

Fenway Park, the oldest ballpark in Major League Baseball, also plays host to special events—hockey, rugby, snowboarding, parties, and concerts.

Since 2003, it has opened its doors to some of the biggest names in rock, pop, and country music with “The Fenway Summer Concert Series.” The Zac Brown Band kicks off this summers concerts June 15th with two back-to-back shows.

Last summer I saw James Taylor at Fenway and it was the perfect venue to listen to music—I was pleasantly surprised! The bands perform between left and center field in front of “the green monster.” You can watch from chairs set up on the field or in the stands.

I sat in the stands behind home plate and was able to see the performer easily on the two large screens in the outfield—the acoustics were perfect. On a clear night, the music wafts on the breeze and surrounds the patrons as they watch the sunset over left field. Ah!

Three weeks later, country sensation, four-time Entertainer of the Year and current host of American Idol, Luke Bryan, will take the stage to kick off the weekend following July 4th on Friday, July 6th.

Luke just landed his 20th career #1 single with “Most People are Good” from his “What Makes You Country” album. He always puts on a great show, so if you like country—get your tickets!

The Foo Fighters, the Grammy Award-winning, alternative rock band, from Seattle, Washington will entertain their loyal fans on July 21 and 22.

Margaritaville icon, Jimmy Buffet and his Coral Reefer Band will be taking to the stage for one night on August 9th. Jimmy reached success in the 1970’s with his good-natured, laid-back island music and beach bum lifestyle.

His staying power landed him a musical on Broadway, “Escape to Margaritaville.” After a day at the beach to get you in the mood, grab your friends, get some tickets and get swept away to the islands.

The next night on August 10, it’s time to switch gears to the unmistakable crooning and style of the piano man himself—Billy Joel.

He will play for his fifth year in a row under the stars.

For hardcore rocker fans, the legendary Journey and Def Leopard will perform together for one night on August 11 and, Pearl Jam will close out the series Labor Day Weekend, September 2 and 4th, just in time for all the returning college students.

Pearl Jam, although a relative  “newcomer” (1990’s) compared to the decades of music making of Journey and Def Leopard, has a timeless rock vibe that will surely keep them around for a while.

As you can see from the fabulous line-up there is something for everyone, don’t wait too long to get your tickets. They are on sale now at the box office and Ticketmaster.
