Emma Chamberlain is Changing The Fashion Game

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

We all love scrolling through Instagram. We look at influencers and their style and wonder how we can improve our own fashion. We save pieces to our Pinterest boards, so we can try to achieve that aesthetic look. One person that I really look up to is Emma Chamberlain.

Emma has been in the public eye for a few years now. She started her YouTube channel in 2017 and since then, she really has evolved. Over time, her content has become a lot more fashion-based and she has begun to truly develop herself. As a young adult, her viewers can see that she is transitioning into the person she wants to be.

Emma constantly posts her totally creative and unique outfits on Instagram. She has a true eye for putting together cool and innovative looks. She pairs interesting patterns, colors, and types of clothing.

It isn’t just her fashion, but her attitude as well. On her podcast, Anything Goes, she talks a lot about her perspective on fashion. She mentions how she has developed a care-free attitude towards people’s opinions and this has really given her the ability to wear whatever she wants. This translates into the photos that she shares on Instagram. She is constantly posting looks that have taken Instagram by storm.

Recently, with her bold choices, she has noticed that a lot of people look at her and do not understand her fashion choices. However, she really tries to not pay attention to the negativity, and the fact that people might turn their heads is the part that she really likes about her fashion. She wants to stand out, which is what makes her so inspiring.

Despite this, she does open up about her insecurities. A few weeks ago, Emma dyed her hair back to her natural color. She talks a lot on her podcast and YouTube channel about how this has made her vulnerable. She enjoyed her blonde hair, and now she has to almost reinvent some of her fashion to match her darker hair.

I think this change of hair color has actually also helped her fashion. In the past few weeks, we have seen an even further increase in creativity from Emma. She really is trying to push the boundaries of fashion. For example, she paired a blue sweater with a colorful plaid shirt. She also included an additional magenta jacket over the outfit.

On anyone else, I think this outfit would be hideous. Nobody else would have even thought of this combination. The outfit and color combination, however, is one that is very unique and looks stunning on her. She is able to pull an outfit together and add just the right amount of pattern and colors that it looks cohesive.

Emma also knows how to play into and amplify trends. She has been seen wearing yoga pants, the new crewneck and skirt combination, and platform Doc Martens. She has truly inspired so many to dress in a trendy way.

Her influence is also seen outside of social media. Emma has been to Fashion Week multiple times which shows she has truly moved out of the simple Instagram influencer world, and into something way bigger. She has transformed herself and she deserves all of the fashion recognition that she has received— she has filmed videos for Vogue, been on the cover of Allure, and produced a collaboration with Louis Vuitton. She has transcended YouTube and hopefully continues to ride this momentum.

I have been inspired by Emma, and hope to see where she goes next with her fashion. I am constantly stalking her Instagram, and I don’t think I will stop anytime soon. She truly helps me explore my own creativity. She is also so young and she has so much ahead of her, and I cannot wait to see where her career will take her.

For now, I will be cheering her on, and refreshing her Instagram 24/7.
