Even though Thanksgiving break has just ended, it’s time to start thinking about what to pack for the month-long winter break that is just a couple weeks away. If you live in the North East (or any other unbearably cold climate) then yes, you should bring home cozy sweaters, fluffy socks, and a puffy parka. But, don’t forget all of your festive holiday get-ups. Below is a guide on how to dress appropriately, both in front of family members and for the chilly weather, when home for the holidays. Remember: a holiday party at your grandmother’s house is different than a Saturday night frat party – so dress accordingly.

1. A pair of patterned tights

A pair of polka dot or striped tights is the perfect addition to any holiday outfit (an added bonus: they keep your legs warm!). Try pairing your tights with a simple dress or skirt and short leather boots. A pair of sparkle tights would also add a little shine to any outfit!

2. A long sleeved dress

A long sleeved dress is essential in any collegiette’s winter wardrobe. Whether you choose a simple black cotton dress or a funky patterned sweater dress, try incorporating this staple into you winter outfits! A simple red velour dress is also a great holiday staple.

3. A classic blouse with sparkly touches

A silky, pocketed blouse in a nice burgundy or black is a great option for a holiday party! Try a blouse with some festive sparkly touches like crystals or a hint of sparkle in the material.

4. A velour, skater-style skirt

Velour is coming back as a trendy cloth; so, take advantage of this comfy fabric with a black or red flowy skirt! It can be dressed up easily with a nice blouse or tank top and a pair of leather boots or heeled booties.

5. Over-the-knee leather boots

If you don’t have a nice pair of black leather boots – start looking! A great pair of over-the-knee leather boots is an ideal way to dress up a simple jean and sweater outfit. Leather is also easily cleanable – so you don’t have to worry about getting them dirty during the winter months!

6. A cable knit infinity scarf

A cable knit scarf to any outfit is essential to any winter ensemble. This thick scarf can add a pop to any outfit and will keep you extra warm! Try it in a neutral color or experiment with a distinctive two-toned style.
