Day Trip Destination: NH White Mountains

If you drive about three hours from Boston, you will make it to the White Mountains in New Hampshire. I have lived in NH for most of my life, but it was here that I actually appreciated where I lived. There are endless trails, gorges, viewing spots, and things to do that make a day trip totally worth it. If you’re stuck on things to do this winter break, this is the place to go!

Local businesses scatter the towns in this area, making for incredible restaurants. My personal favorite is Black Mountain Burger Co. Their menu features lunch and dinner options for everyone, and of course, amazing burgers.

Besides the food and shops, the scenery is breathtaking. You can drive along the famous Kancamagus Highway, which runs about 56 miles across the region. The sights along the road are beautiful, but every couple of minutes there’s a viewing spot or a network of trails to pull off on. They provide endless Instagram photo ops and places to explore.

As college students in the city, we are surrounded by traffic and bright lights. In the White Mountains, you can hike through the Lost River or Flume Gorges, or take the Cog Railway up to the top of Mount Washington. The list of attractions is infinite, but they all give us a chance to escape the noise and soak in the peace and serenity of the outdoors.

Whether you love the outdoors or your heart belongs to the city, you won’t regret a visit to the White Mountains.
