Halloween weekend is about to kick off and the costume craziness is about to begin. Not only is one great costume required, I have been told that it is a necessity to have two or three. Sorry wallets, but the long lost time of spending money on just one costume seems to be over. Not only do you have to buy a cape and fake blood to be a vampire, but you might also have to buy a cowboy hat for a cute little cowgirl costume and some cat ears for the cat woman outfit you plan on wearing Saturday.

Why are three costumes necessary? Good question. Before I came to college, I never even thought of being more than one thing for Halloween.  Even if I went to multiple parties, it was often with different people and so it didn’t matter if I wore the same outfit more than once. Now things seem to be different. When I asked around to see what people were planning to be on Halloween I normally got multiple answers, each a costume for a different night.

Even though the multiple costume idea might allow for a little bit more creativity, it does make shopping for a Halloween costume even more stressful than it already is. Not only do you have to buy one costume that is cute, creative and original, you have to buy three! Personally, I think it is ridiculous but do I still do it? Yes. I don’t want to be the only person on Halloween who is always wearing the same costume when everyone else switches it up.

If you are wondering if it bothers me that I am caving to peer pressure, yes, it certainly does. So the next question is, am I planning on doing anything about it? Nope. When it comes to something as trivial as Halloween costumes, in the grand scheme of things, I keep telling myself that it doesn’t really matters. Either way, the decision is up to you. Whether you plan on being three things like me (aka, a cute nerd, a cat and a vampire) or only a fairy tale princess, have an amazing time this Halloween and try not to freeze.
