Celebrate the Most Wonderful Time of the Year With this Festive Playlist

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

It’s finally December, which means we can all stop arguing about the socially acceptable time to start listening to holiday music (my answer = mid-November), grab some hot chocolate, and put Michael Bublé’s silky smooth voice on full blast. This particular time of the year can sometimes feel not-so-wonderful for college students (thank you @finals). During these trying few weeks before break, I have been able to lift my mood with the sweet songs of Christmas. That’s right, what I’m saying here is that listening to Christmas music is a form of self-care for me.

For anyone who isn’t convinced by the healing powers of holiday tunes, I have compiled a playlist of songs that will be sure to make your heart grow three sizes.

I made this list and checked it twice, and I promise that it’s full of all the timeless classics and straight bops you could ever dream of. It starts off with a healthy dose of nostalgia-inducing songs that’ll make wish you were riding a sleigh in the middle of a snow-filled meadow or sitting in front of a yule log with a steaming mug of eggnog. The quintessential voices of Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole, and Dean Martin will transport you to a winter wonderland faster than you can say, “I love Rudolph!”

Part two of the playlist is dedicated to the songs that’ll get everyone at the dorm room holiday party up on their feet. Bops like “Feliz Navidad” and “Last Christmas” will have everyone singing along and really getting into the holiday spirit. As the ultimate finale, I included Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas is You,” aka the golden standard of Christmas songs. Gotta save the best for last, right?

Whether you’ve been listening to holiday music since November 1st or you roll your eyes every time you hear the first few seconds of “Frosty the Snowman” in line at Starbucks, this playlist should provide you with the perfect tasting menu of Christmas tunes that are too good to get sick of. Winter break is so close I can almost taste the candy canes, so let’s get through these next few weeks with the spirit of these holiday tunes!
