Caroline Truelove: Falling in Love with Handmade Jewelry

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

I asked my friend Carolina Truelove about her experience as a small business owner. This year, she started a jewelry business. She makes all of the jewelry herself. If you are interested in some new jewelry pieces or a great gift for a loved one, check out her products on her business Instagram “jewelryby.care”!

Q: How did you learn to make jewelry?

A: I had seen a lot of ideas on Pinterest and watched videos of other people doing it, and tried it out on my own.

Q: What is your favorite thing about running a small business?

A: I love that it allows me to do whatever I want and create anything I can think of. I can do it in my free time, and I enjoy doing it with and for my friends, and teaching other people how to do it. I also love that I can make products for myself.

Q: What is the hardest part of owning a small business?

A: Finding time to make things and come up with what I want to make can be difficult with school and another job. Sometimes I just get a creative block, and can’t bring myself to make anything for weeks at a time.

Q: What is your favorite piece of jewelry that you have made?

A: My favorite thing I’ve made are my rock rings, because I wear rings more than any other jewelry.

Q: Has social media played a big role in your success as a business owner?

A: Yes, I use Instagram to post and sell my jewelry. People have also posted jewelry they have bought from me on Instagram, Snapchat, and VSCO. Without these apps, I probably would not have started selling jewelry.

Q: Where can people buy your jewelry?

A: People can buy my jewelry through direct messaging me on Instagram or through my Etsy shop.

I hope you enjoyed reading about Caroline’s experience as a small business owner! Again, be sure to check out her beautiful jewelry!
