Do you get caffeine headaches? They tend to come in the form of intense migraines, followed by a vague feeling of nausea and irritability, triggered by nothing other than the lack of caffeine.
Â
If you get them as intensely as I do or feel tired all of the time without the rush of caffeine, you are officially an addict. My name is Emily Christine Sheehan and I have been addicted to coffee for five years. That lovely beverage, which can be sweet and sugary in the form of an innocent white chocolate mocha or an aromatic latte with a delicious touch of foam at the top. Jeez, I even sound like an addict.
Â
I buy coffee all of the time. When I spoke to my mom at the beginning of the year and she asked me if I was being frugal, I replied with a resounding yes! I buy cheap groceries, I keep track of my money and I even took my laundry home during Thanksgiving break so that I didn’t have to pay to do laundry here. But, that frugality doesn’t extend to one important thing. Coffee. I don’t know how much I have managed to spend this semester alone on the delicious substance, but it was a lot.  Why buy it when I can get it for free in the dining hall? I can’t stand that green mountain crap! The Seattlite within calls for Starbucks.
Â
So, will I repent my evil ways and kick the habit? I doubt it. First of all, it’s too delicious and secondly it’s essential to my grades. I don’t know how many days and nights I have only been able to function because of coffee. With finals approaching and the pain of hell week upon me, coffee has become my savior. It gives me focus and clarity. Anything is possible when I am wired on the stuff. I mean for god’s sakes, without it I am not sure I could have found the energy to write this article.
Â
Of course, try not to become an addict like me. Nothing is healthy in excess, and I am definitely an excessive coffee drinker. But by all means, drink coffee! Just don’t crazy with it.
