BU Tuition Expected to Increase By 370% in the Coming Years

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

For those who haven’t heard, BU Tuition will be increasing by 3.7% for the upcoming school year. Tuition and fees will now total $52,082, with basic room and board on top of that at $15,270. The Office of The President issued a statement that this increase “was in the lower half of our peer group” (a.k.a. other universities). Wow, thanks, President Brown!

So, with all of this extra money funneling into BU’s bank account, let’s take a look at some of the things our beloved university plans on using it to improve:

1. The BU Bus system:

Yes, it’s finally happening! Our school’s BU Bus collection will be growing, meaning no more seeing a 34 minute wait for the bus to arrive, no more shoving your way inside the bus while feeling like a canned sardine, and no more checking the BU mobile app to find two of the buses off in the middle of Rhode Island!

2. The COM Building:

The College of Communications is one of the most elite colleges at BU, consistently ranking as one of the best in the nation. It’s only fitting that the old, tired building that houses COM gets a well-deserved makeover.

3. The sidewalks:

The sidewalks across campus are notoriously pothole ridden, but not for much longer! No more dodging bumps and tree stumps as you walk down Bay State Road, or hopping over holes on Commonwealth Ave. Our campus will soon be much less hazardous for those chronic text-and-walkers like me.

4. Lower tuition for everyone:

Oh wait, nevermind!

So there you have it! A complete list of the things BU plans on spending our money on. Of course, by this point, you may have already realized that I am completely lying! None of these changes are likely to occur, but on the bright side here is the actual list of things the new money will be used for:

1. Executive paychecks:

The President and fellow higher-ups work tirelessly for us, they deserve a nice raise!

2. Probably like four more science buildings:

Because you can’t spell BU without STEM.

So it looks like we may not be getting everything we hoped for out of this year’s tuition increase, but fear not! Our tuition will rise again next year as well! At a minuscule 3.7% increase this upcoming year, BU tuition will hike up 37% the next year, and 370% after that. We may finally get some re-paving done soon!

As for now, keep on sidestepping those potholes! Go Terriers!
