Everyone loves Dean Elmore but few students actually get to know him. Emma Tangoren gets to work with him daily as the Program Assistant for Digital Media at Boston University Dean of Students Office. So far this week she has seen Ryan Reynolds filming at Fenway Park and went to the Middle East on Tuesday with Dean Elmore to film promos.

Part of Emma’s job is being involved with social media, and involved she is. With over 1,000 followers and over 14,000 tweets Emma is a borderline addict. Currently she is in the running as “Boston’s Most Famous Student” through BostInnovation’s contest.

What is it like to work for Dean Elmore?
Working in The Dean of Students Office is really cool. I like getting to stay in the loop about what’s going on at the University. Dean Elmore’s a pretty cool boss, too. That’s definitely a plus. It’s great to get to work with people like the Dean and John Battaglino who are so committed to not just the University, but specifically the students of BU. I think the amount of work and time they give to students goes under appreciated, working in their office definitely showed me that.

How does it feel to be nominated for “Boston’s Most Famous Student”?
When I first found out I was nominated I was pretty excited, but honestly I’m one of the least-qualified people on that list. However, BostInno is a great resource for not just the Boston tech scene but the city as a whole. Their education page just launched; I’m excited to see what they have to share and discuss within the colleges around Boston.

What other activities are you involved in?
Besides working for Dean of Students, I’m the Underwriting Director for WTBU Radio here on campus, I volunteer in the Community Service Center and as an Admissions Ambassador, I’m a sister in Delta Gamma, I’m one of two campus reps for foursquare at BU and a FYSOP leader!

Of everything, what is the thing you are the most passionate about?
Honestly, just being a part of the BU community. For a large urban school, it really provides the best atmosphere to get involved not just in the University itself but also in the city of Boston. I’m pretty obsessed with BU, as most people can attest to, because it’s provided so many opportunities to me.

How did you get to be so involved with social media?
I’m not really sure, to be honest. I started tweeting last Thanksgiving Break, when I was bored at home. There’s not too much going on in upstate NY when it’s snowing. After that, I just kind of went from there.
