The Best Haunted Houses and Hayrides Around Boston

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

It’s officially October, and that means one thing. Halloween. So it’s time to carve pumpkins, buy ridiculous costumes, and get scared out of your mind at a haunted house or hayride. Here are some of the best haunted attractions around the Boston area this month:

1. Witch’s Woods

Witch’s Woods is at the top of this list because it is definitely the best and most popular haunted attraction in Massachusetts during this time of year. Witch’s Woods has a haunted house, haunted hayride, and a haunted trail you can walk along! The drive is about 45 minutes from Boston, but completely worth it if you can make the trip.

Address: 79 Powers Rd, Westford, MA 01886

2. Barrett’s Haunted Mansion

If you’re looking to be truly terrified, Barrett’s is the place to go. The haunted mansion is scary as is, but on the 20th and 27th of October, the Mansion puts on a Darkness Unleashed event where the lights go completely out and there are no rules for the monsters lurking within. If you’re 18 or older and want to be really scared, making a reservation for these events is the perfect plan for you.

Address: 1235 Bedford St, Abington, MA 02351

3. Connors Farm

Hysteria at Connors Farm isn’t your average haunted house experience, it’s so much better than that. Why, you ask? Because you get to shoot the creepy zombies chasing you with paint guns. And if shooting zombies with paintballs doesn’t get you excited, which it should, the farm still offers a haunted trail that you can opt for instead.

Address: 30 Valley Road, Danvers, MA 01923

4. McCray’s Farm Monster Mash

After nearly 25 years in the business, McCray’s Farm has perfected the art of creating a terrifying haunted hayride. The farm is always adding new attractions and making their hayride scarier year after year, so if you can make the trip out for a night of terror it is definitely worth the drive!

Address: 55 Alvord St, South Hadley, MA 01075

5. Chambers of Terror

Well, we were all waiting for it so here it is. A haunted house in Salem, Massachusetts, arguably the most haunted city in all of New England. If you want to spend a day this October walking the streets that hosted the witch trials, then the Chambers of Terror is definitely worth planning into your day. The entire town of Salem goes all out on Halloween, and this terrifying haunted house is no different.

Address: 59 Wharf Street, Salem, MA 01970

6. Fright Kingdom

If you’re worried about frigid temperatures or miserable weather ruining your haunted house experience, then worry not. Fright Kingdom is one of the largest indoor haunted houses in New England, which may sound appealing but remember, once you’re inside there’s no turning back. The costumes and sets put together for this haunted house are top notch, and it is an experience you’ll be glad you had.

Address: 12 Simon Street, Nashua, NH 03060

So there you have it! These are some of the best quality haunted houses and hayrides in the Boston area. Now go forth and get scared!
