The Best Eight Episodes from “Sabrina: The Teenage Witch”

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

Sabrina: The Teenage Witch is a great show to watch as Halloween approaches. It really can put you in the fall mood without having to watch anything scary or too long, like a movie. I grew up watching reruns and always loved to return to it as Halloween came around every year. A lot of my top eight episodes are from the earlier seasons where, at least I believe, it kept more of the true spirit of the show before Sabrina went to college and left home.

“The Crucible” – Season 1 Episode 23

This episode was my go-to when I was younger. The show is already set in New England, but this episode brings Sabrina to Salem, where hundreds of years ago witches were put on trial and killed. Everyone in her class randomly chooses a piece of paper which is either a “townsperson” card or a “witch” card. Accusations are thrown around throughout the trip and Sabrina is put on trial, where she runs the risk of actually being discovered as a real witch.

“Good Will Haunting” – Season 3 Episode 6

Because Sabrina: The Teenage Witch obviously has a Halloween-esque theme to it, it only makes sense that there are a good amount of episodes that actually take place on Halloween. In this episode specifically, a distant relative sends Sabrina a doll that terrorizes her house while she has her mortal friends over. It pretty much has everything that could be wished for in a Sabrina: The Teenage Witch episode— magic, Halloween, and of course, Salem the cat.

“The Great Mistake” – Season 1 Episode 22

This is probably one of my favorite episodes because viewers see more of Salem’s backstory on how he became a cat. He is undoubtedly my favorite character and the opening of this episode will definitely make you laugh (but I won’t spoil it for you). This episode also shows more of Sabrina’s Aunt Zelda and Hilda’s backstory and the many jobs they had.

“Nobody Nose Libby Like Sabrina Knows Libby” – Season 3 Episode 9

This episode is a lot of fun as viewers get to see Sabrina and Salem go into arch-nemesis Libby’s brain. Libby is the school’s popular cheerleader who constantly picks on or causes problems for Sabrina. Now Sabrina has some control over what Libby does while also trying to find a way out.

“You Bet Your Family” – Season 3 Episode 7

Salem once again causes problems for the family when he starts gambling with the well known “Diamond Dave” who has never lost a game. Unfortunately, he bets his family, and they’re forced to work for Dave or find a way out.

“Disney World” – Season 2 Episode 23

This episode brings Sabrina, her aunts, and her friends to Disney World in Florida. While one of Sabrina’s potions turns people into animals, her aunt turns a bone into a prehistoric caveman that helps them but also draws unnecessary attention.

“Sabrina and the Beanstalk” – Season 2, Episode 16

When Sabrina tries to cheat her way into being motivated to do homework by using homework, she accidentally creates a giant beanstalk. Harvey, her mortal boyfriend, gets caught up in the mess and is in danger. Ultimately, it comes down to Salem to help save the day.

“Salem and Juliette” – Season 4 Episode 11

In this episode, Salem is attending his high school reunion, but of course, is now a cat. He struggles to find a date to impress his former classmates who used to pick on him. Sabrina helps out, but things don’t always go as planned.

Recently I’ve seen that a new revival of the show came out in 2018, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Although I’ve yet to watch it, it’s meant to be more in the genre of horror. I totally understand that that aspect could be played up with Sabrina being a witch, but having comedy in Sabrina: The Teenage Witch really makes the show have much more charm and likeability to it. I’ll have to give the other show a try, but I recommend starting out with the original show if you’re new to it!

I’m off to watch some more episodes!
