Beauty Debunked: Rebecca Goldman’s Take on Makeup

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

Whether wearing a full face of makeup or just a little mascara, everyone has their preferences when it comes to beauty products and their own story on what it means to them. Oftentimes, people have the misconception that makeup is unnatural and used to create false beauty standards. Yet, for many, makeup acts as something more powerful. I have decided to start a series of articles where I talk to people I know who wear makeup, no matter how much or how little, to help disprove the common misunderstandings that surround the beauty industry.

This week, sophomore communications student Rebecca Goldman answered some questions on her experience with makeup while also sharing a few of her favorite products.

How did you get into makeup?

I started getting into makeup by watching Youtube videos in high school…My friends also liked makeup so we would share our favorite products, which helped me figure out what to buy.

Does anyone inspire how you do your makeup?

Not really. I usually just do stuff that is pretty simple. But it’s fun to watch other people create extravagant looks for themselves.

What’s your favorite drugstore makeup product?

I have a few, but the ones I use every day are the Maybelline Big Shot mascara or the NYX brow mascara.

What’s your favorite high-end makeup product?

Armani Luminous silk foundation. It’s my favorite foundation for my skin.

How does your daily makeup routine change on a night out?

Daily I spend about 15-20 minutes on makeup. Usually, I just put some concealer, mascara, and brow gel on. If I have the time or feel like it I’ll wear some lightweight foundation. For a night out, I can spend an hour on makeup, I spend time on eyeshadow, which can take a while, and the process to make my foundation and face makeup look natural but not too cakey takes some effort.

What’s the best beauty advice you’ve ever received?

I would say don’t be afraid to experiment and try out new products! Whether it’s more of a natural look or something more glamorous, there’s something for everyone.

Rebecca is one of the many college students who enjoys taking part in a beauty routine. It is experiences like hers that show how makeup routines vary between people and there is no sole way to use it.  People like Rebecca reveal how the beauty industry continues to be undefined in one way and has more meaning to women everywhere.
