Some people watch TV shows, others watch movies. But the best, most portable way for me to ring in the fall season is through a good book. With various genres and lengths to suit every lifestyle, here is a list of three incredible reads to get you in the fall spirit.

The Secret History by Donna Tartt

If you think of fall at all, chances are you’ll think of Donna Tartt’s famous dark-academia novel, The Secret History. Set on a college campus in Vermont, the prose and the imagery Tartt provides create a realm of mystery and wonder, perfect for the misty, spooky season. A mix of mystery, classics, and the throes of friendship, The Secret History captures the feel of a new school year, making it incredibly easy to romanticize.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling

While this book doesn’t quite fit the age range of some of the others on this list, the fall season is arguably not complete without a rewatching, or in this case rereading, of a childhood classic: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Especially with the HBO show airing later this year, re-entering the magical world of Harry Potter is the best way to adapt to another year of life in a home away from home.

Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë

You might have seen the film adaptation of Wuthering Heights this February, but I can assure you the book was nothing like the film. Better, more thought-out, and a direct way to understand the lengths people will go to for revenge, this classic novel makes for the perfect fall read, easy to pick up in a free moment to escape to life in the rainy English countryside, channeling all the fall vibes.

What’s your pick this fall?
