Thanksgiving break is only a matter of days away, and whether you’re going home or sticking around campus, be sure to make the most of it. If you’re one of the later, there is no shortage to what you can do this week in Boston. Here are eight things you can do in the city for the holiday.

1. Go out to a fancy restaurant for Thanksgiving dinner

Gather all your friends who are also sticking around for break, and give thanks together! This is your time to splurge, so head out to one of the best restaurants in the Hub offering a Thanksgiving-themed dinner. Go around the table, and each share what you are most thankful for this year.

2. Give back and volunteer

Thanksgiving is synonymous with giving back, so why don’t you spend some time this fall break volunteering? There are plenty of homeless shelters and non-profit organizations that need your help delivering meals, serving dinner, collected donations or visiting those in need. See where you can volunteer here.

3. Visit Boston’s greatest museums

It’s no secret; Boston is home to some pretty fabulous museums. Make a museum checklist, and visit as many as you can during the week. Almost all of them offer free or reduced admission, so don’t forget your Terrier card! Extra points if you make it to the New England Aquarium and get a picture with the sharks.

4. Be a tourist in your own city

Ever wanted to do a duck boat tour, but didn’t want to look like a tourist in your own city? Now is the time! Boston will be less crowded with most of the city’s college students out of town, so this is your time to travel the Freedom Trail, visit the site of the Boston Massacre, and utilize every single Boston tourist-y photo op.

5. Ice skate at the Frog Pond ice rink

Ice-skating on the Frog Pond in the Boston Common is definitely one of my favorite Boston holiday activities. The rink will be open and ready for skating in late November, so now is your change! Work on your best skating moves to impress your friends when they get back to campus.

6. Get a head start on Holiday shopping

Black Friday is my favorite unofficial holiday of the year. Set your alarm early on Friday morning, and take advantage of all those sales! This is the perfect time to stock up on holiday gifts for your family, friends and roommates (and at great prices)!

7. Step back in time at Plymouth Rock

If you’re down for a road trip, Plymouth Rock is your spot. Only 45 minute Zip Car drive from the city, there are tons of activities in the town where the pilgrims first landed in America on the Mayflower. Don’t miss the parade, first Thanksgiving reenactment or the tour of the historic Native American village.

8. Binge watch a show a show on Netflix

One of the best ways to spend your break is just being lazy in your bed. You know all of the Netflix shows everyone has been buzzing about, but you didn’t have time to watch? Break is the best time to binge watch these shows nestled underneath your covers with a piping hot pumpkin spice latte! Personal recommendations have to be Orange is the New Black and Mad Men.
