6 Local Events to Get You in the Halloween Spirit

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

Halloween is quickly approaching and with midterms, classes, and our busy schedules it might be hard to get into the spirit. So below are a list of Halloween activities to do before the 31st that will definitely get you in the mood to celebrate.

1. Fall Pumpkin Festival at Frog Pond- On Sunday, October 27th from 4:30-6:30 pm. The Frog Pond at the Boston Common will be illuminated with hundreds of floating jack-o’-lanterns. Bring your own pumpkin or just stop by with friends to see all the different and fun designs. There is also a Halloween parade and attendees are encouraged to dress up and participate. It’s free!

2. Ghost Tours- What’s Halloween season without a proper ghost tour? There are so many ghost tours in the Boston area. If you’re looking for a historical tour, try the Ghosts and Gravestone Tour (http://www.ghostsandgravestones.com) or the Haunted Boston Ghost Tour (http://www.hauntedboston.com/). The Beacon Hill ghost tour is also a fun way to learn the history of the Beacon Hill neighborhood (http://www.bostonbyfoot.org), and for something a little more fun and less scary, the Harvard Square Ghost tour is a great option (http://cambridgehistoricaltour…).

3. A Trip to Salem- A Massachusetts Halloween would not be complete without a trip to Salem. Catch a quick train to Salem on any weekend and enjoy all the ghoulish activities Salem has to offer. Take a tour or just travel around yourself. Activities include everything from Museums, to haunted houses, to palm and tarot card readings from “real” witches.

4. Scary Movies at Coolidge Corner Theater- Coolidge Corner presents its special “After Midnight” theater showings which include scary movies like “Insidious” and Halloween classics like “The Witches.” Tickets are only 10 dollars and are a great way to sneak in a movie break after a long day of studying for midterms.

5.  BU Central Halloweekend NIGHT 1- On Friday, October 25th, BU Central will be hosting a special Halloween event. Best part? It’s free! Join BU Central for a special night that will include bobbing for apples, a costume contest, a make your own caramel apple bar, and a special showing of the “Rocky Horror Picture Show.” Festivities begin at 9pm and the movie starts at 10pm. Prizes are being given out for the costume contest including a pair of tickets to see Macklemore and Ryan Lewis.

6.  Haunted House- Or “Haunted Ship” in this case. The USS Salem is a tour of a real United States battle ship combined with all the fun of a haunted house. The staff includes live “haunters” who are ready to jump out and scare you at any moment. Tickets are only 15 dollars.

If all else fails and you can’t make any of these events, just grab some friends and turn on ABC Family’s “13 nights of Halloween.” Get some yummy candy at CVS and be sure to get into the Halloween spirit before you head out for your own fun on Halloweekend. Happy Halloween!
