We all know the feeling of walking into an Urban Outfitters or Forever 21 and not finding a single article of clothing that is remotely interesting. There are a few fashion trends that I’ll definitely still wear but will not purchase again.

1. Button down skirts.

The existence of these skirts is what drove me to write this article. If I walk into a department store one more time and see a button-down skirt on a mannequin I’m going to have to resort to making my own clothes. Maybe I’m too pessimistic, but I really do have faith in whoever decides what’s going to be in style each season. Recently, they have been deciding that we’re going to be keeping button down skirts in for a while. I own one or two of these and I’ll probably wear them for a while, but I just refuse to buy another. I expect more from these department stores.

2. Distressed band shirts.

This is more of a bone I have to pick with Urban Outfitters. I could write a whole other article on the enigma that is pre-distressed clothing. There’s a difference between a few tears in my jeans and a t-shirt that looks like my mom wore it every day in the 80’s. I do own an Abbey Road t-shirt that was indeed purchased from Urban Outfitters but I can justify that because it’s a hand me down. I still look a little bit like a tool when I wear it, though.

3. White high-top converse.

These are verging on becoming a classic shoe so, maybe I’m just too cynical. I just think that we as people can find a more creative white sneaker. It’s true, they’re convenient! They go with everything, they’re not too expensive, and they still haven’t gone out of style. I just get a little bit disappointed when I see an outfit ruined by a pair of white high-top converse.

4. Square neck dresses.

These dresses are an example of something I’m less sick of wearing, just sick of buying. It’s true, these dresses are flattering on various body types but, when I’m looking for something new and trendy to wear, I know I’m not going to find that in a square neck dress. Still, I’m guilty of owning a handful of these – they’re just so fun!

5. Sparkled sheer tops.

These were so fun for a little while because we got to show off our cute lil’ bralettes while also being vaguely fully clothed! But, at this point, I don’t think I can justify purchasing another one. They were cool and fun for a while and now I need the teen clothing designers in the clouds to come up with something new.

6. Cropped sweaters.

Okay, I know these accentuate the waist and show off some booty but, I’m so sick of seeing them in stores. When I’m sweater shopping I’m looking for something to actually keep me warm and we all know cropped sweaters really don’t get that job done. I am, however, guilty of owning a surplus number of cropped sweatshirts so maybe I’m not one to talk.

Maybe it’s just me but, I’m ready for something new from these stores, especially for Black Friday. Is that too much to ask?
