5 Things to Do at Home Over Winter Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

As we struggle through these last weeks of school, and count down the days until we can hand in that last final of the semester, it’s time to start planning for the glorious, carefree days of winter break. If you’re lucky enough to be spending the weeks of vacation in your hometown, here’s a to-do list of things to enjoy before stepping back on campus!

1. Spend excessive hours in bed.

Everyone knows that there’s nothing better than snuggling up in your old bedroom at home.  It’s your sanctuary, and your bed is a safe haven of clean sheets and your favorite blankets. So, no matter how many time your parents and friends beg you to stop “wasting away your days” or “being lazy,” just bury yourself further into the heaps of pillows and comforters and enjoy the ability to nap whenever, and however long, you want.

2. Drive by your old high school with your squad.

If you’re feeling nostalgic for the days of school bells and hall passes, why not drive by your old high school to reminisce on the pre-college years. Better yet, bring your squad along so you can talk about the memories together, share a few laughs, talk about where your graduating class is now, and just be thankful those days of a 7-hour-a day prison are behind you.

3. Take advantage of those home-cooked meals.

With a month away from the dining hall, or maybe having to cook your own dinners every night, enjoy every single homemade meal you can. There’s nothing better than the taste of a meal you didn’t have to cook yourself, so savor every single bite of your favorite breakfast, lunches and dinners.

4. Treat your pets like royalty.

If you’re lucky enough to have a furry friend awaiting your return home, you better be ready to show your pet some love. Cherish the moments with your animal companion, sneak them extra treats, pet them all day long, and snuggle them every chance you get, because you know once you’re back on campus, you’ll be missing your other half.

5. Detox and rejuvenate.

Perhaps the most important to-do of all, take this time over winter break to recuperate from whatever the past semester threw at you. Whether this is taking some time off from the parties that begin on Thirsty Thursday, the weekly late-night study sessions, or the early morning treks to class, take this time to restore your body to a stress-free state. Eat well, sleep plenty and enjoy hanging out with friends and family.

The winter break to-do list can help you make the most of your time at home, and have the best winter break. So take care of yourself, have some fun and get ready to roll up to campus for next semester feeling excited for the second half of the year!
