5 Things To Do In and Around Boston Before it Gets Too Cold

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

When it comes to winter in Boston, hunkering down is sometimes the only option. But before you have to brave the wind and snow, be sure to get out and enjoy the many beautiful spaces in and around Boston! Grab some friends and take a Saturday to explore our beautiful city and the surrounding areas!

1. Art!

Museums are a great way to get out and about in Boston, no matter what the weather is like – and it makes for some great Instagrams. My personal favorite, the Isabella Stuart Gardener Museum is a gorgeous museum with an interesting history (and you get in for free if your name is Isabella)! The Museum of Fine Arts is another great one, their permanent collection is always fun, as well as their temporary exhibitions. Plus, you can get in for free with your BU ID! One that is on my personal list to visit is the Museum of Bad Art, with great collections of self-proclaimed “bad” art!

2. Outside!

While it might be a little basic, a quick trip on the Green Line will take you to our lovely Boston Common; a great picnic or photoshoot spot. Grab some food and friends and spend some time in one of our city’s lovely green spaces!

3. Outside Boston!

The Commuter Rail can take you outside of the Boston area if you want a breath of fresh air outside of the city. The Peter Pan and Plymouth Brockton busses can take you to the Cape for a weekend to enjoy some beautiful views of the coast!

4. SOWA Markets!

Sundays from 10-4 you can explore art, music, and local food at the SOWA Open Market. Throw on your favorite fall sweater and boots, and head down to South Boston for a good wholesome time!

5. Freedom Trail!

For you history buffs, take a quick T ride to the South End and explore the freedom trail! Explore our city’s rich history and grab some famous cannolis at Mike’s Pastry or Modern Pastries! Maybe even play tourist for a day and grab tickets for Boston’s famous Duck Tours!

These ideas are really only a starter kit of fun things to do in Boston, but be sure to enjoy them before it gets too cold! Our city has something to offer for every type of person, so grab your gal gang and get out there to explore!
