5 Must-Have Summer Clothing Items When You’re Body-Conscious

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

Summer is arguably the best time of the year. School is out, the air smells like freshly-cut grass and charcoal barbeques, and hands are sticky with melted ice cream. The downside? Rising temperatures also mean rising hemlines and for those of us who aren’t fully comfortable with their bodies, summer can also be the most nerve-wracking tie of the year. Even a few years ago, body-consious or plus-sized girls only had a few options to be stylish and cool in the summertime, without having to show too much skin. Thankfully, 2016 has been the year of body positivity and designers are taking notice. Check out these fun and fashionable finds to keep you cool and comfortable during the summer!

1. A bathing suit cover-up

Hanging out by the pool or at the beast with friends is a classic way to spend your summer days, but bathing suits are not exactly a body-consious girl’s best friend. Try a fun cover up to wear over your bathing suit so you can enjoy your beach-day without worrying about your insecurities.

2. A maxi-dress

Maxi-dresses are often made with light, breathable fabrics in a variety of patterns that are perfect for hot summer days.

3. A Great Jean Jacket

Denim jackets can pair well with almost every outfit and are a great option for anyone who’s insecure about thier arms or upper body.

4. A pair of capri pants.

Capris are an awesome option for anyone who wants to cover their legs without worrying about sweating or looking out of place in a thick, heavy pair of jeans or pants.

5. A light scarf.

For some girls, their cleavage can be a huge source of insecurity. A light scarf can be the perfect fun accessory to add flare or any outfit and cover any cleavage.

Loving your body and being proud of who you are is a challenge everyone faces at some point. Until we get there, these clothing items can help. Most importantly, don’t forget to practice self-love on a daily basis and remember that you’re so much more than your physical appearance.
