Throughout the past few months, the presence of my 20th birthday has been consistently in the back of my mind. The idea of turning 20 and entering a new decade of life is exciting but also a bit nerve-wracking. So, I decided to set out some goals I have for this new chapter in my life to hopefully help me grow personally and professionally!

Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle

I’ve gotten into running this past month, and this is a habit I want to continue in my 20’s. In addition to regular exercise, I want to focus more on eating cleaner and more sustainably. Though I’m not sure if I’ll be at full vegan level, I want to make a goal to have a more plant-based diet!

I’ve been trying to focus on nurturing, fulfilling hobbies, although reading is one I’ve been neglecting for a long time. In my 20’s I want to make a better effort to always be reading at least one book in order to broaden my perspectives, and just become more educated in general.

Be More Confident Professionally

While starting college and beginning to pursue my professional goals, I’ve often found my own self-doubt holding me back from pursuing valuable opportunities. Whether it was reaching out to professors about research or applying to internships, I often wouldn’t even try for fear of failure. As I move forward, however, I plan to focus on my confidence in my abilities and my drive to succeed professionally.

Start a Creative Project

Starting a project where I can express my creativity is something I definitely want to pursue in my 20’s. Whether it be a podcast, writing, or learning a new skill, having an outlet to utilize my creative energy that’s not tied to work is something I definitely want to invest in.

Prioritize My Social Life

After the stress of COVID combined with college pressure, I’ve found myself sacrificing my social life and free time consistently this past year. However, now that the pandemic is slowing down and I’m entering a new chapter, forging new friendships and focusing on enjoying my free time is a huge goal!

While I certainly have no idea exactly what my 20’s will have in store, I hope that these goals will motivate me to take advantage of such an exciting chapter in my life!
