3 Steps to Adjust Your Skincare Routine for Fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

As the seasons change, so should your skin care routine. As the summer months usually peak oil production and cause more frequent breakouts for our skin, the colder weather can cause all other sorts of skin issues.

1. Facial Cleanser

In the summer, sweat can clog pores and cause breakouts. As it becomes fall and winter, the colder climate can dry out our skin. Although in the summer I prefer a gel cleanser with Salicylic Acid, but in the winter the cleaner can be to harsh on the skin. In the winter it’s better to use a gentle skin cleanser such as Cetaphil.

2. Moisturize!

After washing your face, it’s really important to moisturize especially in the fall and winter. Simple Replenishing Rich Moisturizer is a great thick moisturizer for sensitive skin that will protect your skin from the weather.

3. Try a facial Oil

A facial oil is a great way to keep your face well hydrated. It might seem counterproductive to put oil on your face, but acne can occur when your face is too dry. When your skin is too dry, it can produce too much oil and cause your skin to break out. That’s why using a face oil to make sure your skin doesn’t get overly dry can really benefit the clarity of your skin. My favorite facial oil is Tarte’s Pure Maracuja Oil.

This fall, switch up the products you use to adjust to the changing weather and make sure to keep moisturized to keep up that beautiful skin.
