We all have those days when all you want to do is sit on your bed and watch Netflix for 36 hours straight. Here are 10 shows perfect for a night to get you through the fall chill.
1. Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Joss Whedon’s cult classic about a teenage girl called to fight vampires, demons, and the forces of darkness has been a staple of TV viewing for all ages. This show has everything: action, comedy, badass characters, cheesy ‘90’s special effects, and more. Once you start, you’ll be eager to join Buffy and the “Scoobies” on their next adventure.
2. The Office
You’ve got a boring job, an incompetent boss, and an office full of blundering employees. What’s not to love? The mockumentary will have you rolling your eyes at Michael and Dwight, “aww”ing at Jim and Pam, and laughing out loud at the antics of Dunder Mifflin, Scranton.
3. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
One of the first in a series of Netflix originals, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt centers around the titular Kimmy, a 29-year-old from Indiana kept underground in a doomsday cult for 15 years. When she is released, she heads straight for NYC to start her life again. With Ellie Kemper playing the adorable and hilarious Kimmy, you’d need an “unbreakable” will not to click on the next episode. —
4. New Girl
This “adorkable” show follows a newly single Jess as she moves into an apartment with Nick, Schmidt, and Coach (and soon after, Winston), who she met on Craigslist. Zooey Deschanel leads this hilarious sitcom that is guaranteed to crack you up.
5. Firefly
This show is infamous for being a fan favorite, yet cancelled after 14 episodes (thanks FOX). The motto is “Find a crew. Find a job. Keep flying,” and you will want to keep flying on Serenity far past the show’s run.
6. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
You’ve seen the Avengers in action, now take a look at the organization that runs the show. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. follows Phil Coulson and his team of agents (made up of a specialist, a piolet, an engineer, a biochemist, and a morally ambiguous hacker) as they travel the world solving cases based around the extraordinary, supernatural, and flat out strange. With action, adventure, and loveable characters, AOS keeps you on your toes and ready for the next episode.
7. Doctor Who
There’s a reason this show has lasted over 50 years! Doctor Who follows The Doctor, an alien who travels through time and space in an old police box called The TARDIS, saving the world. Though the concept may sound strange and un-relatable, the show manages to make us laugh, cry, and care deeply about the fate of The Doctor and his brilliant companions.
8. Parks and Recreation
SNL member Amy Poehler stars as Leslie Knope in Parks and Recreation, a mockumentary (similar to The Office) that centers around city government workers in Pawnee, Indiana. Though it starts out slow, Parks and Rec grows into one of the best comedies of its run time, bringing endearing characters, witty one-liners, and loads of feminism to our TV (and computer) screens.
9. Grace and Frankie
After finding out their husbands are gay— and in love with each other— Grace (Jane Fonda) and Frankie (Lily Tomlin) move in together to try to get their lives back on track. A Netflix original with a star studded cast, Grace and Frankie is sweet, funny, and a fresh new comedy all ages can enjoy.
10. Daredevil
Netflix teams up with Marvel to bring us Daredevil, aka “the devil of Hell’s Kitchen”. This show is definitely the darkest and most intense on the list, and also one of the most addictive. It centers around Matt Murdock, a lawyer blinded as a child, enhancing his other senses as a result, who suits up as a vigilante and fights against a mysterious and powerful crime boss taking over Hell’s Kitchen, getting to the core of the corruption plaguing his city. This show is intense, gritty, and guaranteed to grab your attention until the very end.
