Ahhhhhh boys-can’t live with them, can’t live without them.  We love to say this world would be so much better with just women, but let’s face it from time to time we actually do love our men in every which way.  You know what is funny?  Men love each other in every which way too.  This results in a what many like to call a bromance—the heart-racing love and giggly affection between two straight bros.  Don’t fret if you are not too sure what I am talking about because I have the perfect example.  So this article is all about “The Ultimate Bromance”—the signs that just scream “I love you, man!”

Just over a year ago I met these two guys Patrick and Brian.  Within five minutes I could tell they were not only best friends but they were in love…okay, not really.  I’m talking laughing until your cheeks hurt, fist-pounding love.  It was like looking at a “soon-to-be” couple and feeling the sexual tension in the room; except this tension wasn’t sexual, it was totally bromantic. Brian had been dating, and is still dating, his one and only girl…and Patrick?  Well he’s my boyfriend so hands off girls!  Due to our relationships, I am extremely sure that both of them are not sexually attracted to each other but in every other way possible they are most definitely a couple.  How many of you know about bromances?  Some are brushed under the rug but others, like Patrick and Brian’s, is put in the trophy case.  These two do everything together and everyone knows it.  Their day starts off with class, then some gaming, and ends with the infamous “pillow talk”. That was definitely the first sign—pillow talk.  When us girls have sleepovers and snuggle our heads against our pillows, we tend to have a lot of yipper-yapper until all hours of the morning.  Patrick and Brian are the same way-well they sleep in their own beds.  Yup, they have been known to stay up until all hours having “deep” conversations from across the room.  Many other signs of their bromance follow: loving to talk about when they first met, when one is sad it’s like a domino effect and the other is just as sad, and “their song” is Fireflies by Owl City.

I guess if I really had to pinpoint the specific signs of the ultimate bromance I would have to say there are a few but when it comes down to it, you can just tell.  When I asked Patrick about his best friend he said, “We exchanged phone numbers and became iPhone buddies.  We then gamed ‘till the wee hours of the night and suddenly became the Ted and Marshall of Bryant University.  I wouldn’t sleep 3ft away from anyone else—he’s the nighthawk to my dragon.”  When I asked Brian about his best friend he said, “You know someone is your true friend when you can’t go to bed at the same time without pillow talking until 3am every night.  Our friendship consists of hard core gaming sessions, ballin’ up, and our occasional road trips.  He is truly my broul mate (soul mate).”

So what are those top signs to know if you have a bromance on your hands?  I’ve come up with five that should be obvious:

  1. Their phone is always blowing up with texts from their guy best friend
  2. They grab food, go to the movies, or even run errands together
  3. They have nicknames for each other
  4. They have an anthem…also known as “our song”
  5. They love to take time telling the story of how they first met (over and over again)

What do you all think of a bromance?  Too much?  Nah.  I think it’s pretty cool.  Think about your best friend—the girl who is there for you through everything.  A bromance is the same idea except with two guys!  A guy needs that in his life.  You know, “bro time”.  He needs a guy who will drink that extra beer with him on a Friday night, the guy who will game with him on a Saturday, and the guy who will shoot some hoops with him during the week.  He even needs that guy to reenact a movie poster or two with him (Step Brothers reference to the right). So if your friend, boyfriend, or brother is in a bromance don’t fret!  He just needs another man in his life to keep in him tact—like Peter and Sydney say in “I love you, man”, “I love you, man” “I love you, too, bud.”
