The Sigma’s of Bryant Give Back, And So Can You!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bryant chapter.

Bryant University Faculty, Staff and Students love to give back. Whether it is giving back to the Smithfield/RI communities, or to national charities, Bryant gives back. And during the next two weeks you have the chance to give back to some amazing charities. Sigma Sigma Sigma and Sigma Chi are hosting two week-long events for their national philanthropies. Better yet, they want YOU to be involved. So whether you are a member of Greek Life or not, March 19 through March 30 is Bryant’s chance to make a difference.

Sigma Sigma Sigma’s national philanthropy focuses around the theme “Sigma Serves Children,” specifically through the Robbie Page Memorial. Established in 1951, following the death of the National President Mary Hastings Holloway Page’s son, the RPM supported various polio research projects. When a cure for polio was discovered, the Robbie Page Memorial focused its attention on long-range programming to develop and support play therapy for hospitalized children. Through focusing on the emotional and developmental needs of hospitalized children, funds raised by Sigma Sigma Sigma members help to not only establish playrooms, but also create a specialized field of study for professionals in child development and associated health care professionals.

THIS WEEK, you have the opportunity to help Sigma Sigma Sigma in their goals of providing a safe, therapeutic place for hospitalized children, with appropriate educated professionals. For every $1.00 donated, the sisters of Sigma Sigma Sigma will thank you with 5 raffle tickets for their end-of-the-week raffle. You can help do your part by ordering your Ronzios TODAY and having it delivered, and donating your tips to the Tri-Sigma who delivers your food, attending the Rock Concert tomorrow evening for a chance to win an iPod and iTunes gift card, taking part in Human Bowling on Friday, and lastly, attending the Final Fiesta on Saturday for your chance to win a spring weekend package, a spa package, iPods, tickets to the Barstool Blackout Tour, or gift cards to Rentes, Ronzios, Dunkin Donuts, and Stop & Shop.

NEXT WEEK, you have another amazing opportunity, to help the brothers of Sigma Chi as they raise money for the Huntsman Cancer Institute (to help in the fight against cancer), as well as the new club on campus, Wishful Thinking, which supports the Make-A-Wish-Foundation. Not only will they send their proceeds to these two wonderful charities, but they will also donate to the charity of the WINNING TEAMS CHOICE. Do you have a charity you feel passionately about? Do you wish you had the chance to donate a large amount of money to them? THEN SIGN-UP FOR THIS YEARS DERBY DAYS! Beginning Monday, March 26, Bryant females who have formed teams of 5-7 people will begin the competition to raise the most money, and earn the most points. Girls will compete in a talent competition, penny jar wars, and work to get the most signatures from, and photos with the Sigma Chi brothers. What is better than a chance to round up your girls and start GIVING BACK, while HAVING fun!?

There is no better time than now to gather your girlfriends and start giving back. As both Sigma Sigma Sigma and Sigma Chi work in their quest to support their national philanthropies, you can do so along side them. The weather is great, and these philanthropic events are anything but boring! So what are you waiting for?
