The Bryant Sophomore International Experience is a great way to travel abroad without committing to a full semester. For those traveling in the winter, classes are rapping up with final pre-departure meetings, and everyone is beginning to talk about what to pack. Whether you are going to Argentina and Chile, China, Germany and Spain, Italy, or Malaysia and Singapore, your professor has probably emphasized all of the important things to bring on your trip. However, here are some items you might just forget when gathering everything you need for this two week journey.

1. Digital camera and Extra Memory Card

Although it might be convenient to carry around your phone to take pictures, you should definitely consider bringing a digital camera for those moments where you would like a better quality photo. A little digital camera will make sure your pictures look just as beautiful as they did in person, and you never have to worry about running out of phone storage in the middle of the trip!

2. Translator App

Unless you are a lingual master, you probably haven’t memorized every phrase you may need to say on the trip. A translator app will come in handy when you realize you forgot how to order food at a restaurant! Your other classmates will love you for it as well and may follow suit if there is Wi-Fi available.

3. Neck Pillow

Although it may seem frivolous to some, a neck pillow will help you fall asleep on the plane without using the shoulder of the stranger next to you to get comfortable. With a busy itinerary ahead of you there is no time to be jet lagged, so it is important to sleep as much as you can on the plane ride. Also, using an inflatable pillow will keep it out of the way when deflated and not in use.

4. Plug Converter or Adaptor

Some teachers might have steered you away from bringing straighteners and curling irons on the trip, but you still need to plug in chargers. Bringing a converter or adapter will allow for you to do so without over powering the plug or leaving your American fit plug useless.

5. SPACE!

Even though it will be tempting to pack that last pair of shoes into the empty space in your bag, don’t forget you will be purchasing a lot of souvenirs from your trip that you have to bring back with you. Space is crucial- you don’t want to have to leave something behind, or wear twenty layers on the plane just to fit everything in your suitcase.

Packing for a trip can be stressful, but if you begin with these items you will have a head start. Happy travels!
