Sick of eating stir-fry over and over? Or making the same salad combination for lunch every day? WE FEEL YOU. Salmo offers lots of variety, but let’s face it, eating anywhere seven to fourteen times a week for three years is bound to get boring. And unless you’re a senior or want to go to the Freshman hall lobbies to cook, chances are you’re KITCHEN-LESS too. With this in mind, we at HC Bryant set out on a mission to discover students’ secret Salmo “recipes” and share them with you. Get ready for meals so delicious you’ll think you’re dining in a 4-star restaurant (or at least your own kitchen):

  1. Pizza Bagel: Grab your favorite type of bagel and toast it to your liking. Head over to the pasta area and throw some sauce on both slices of your bagel. Next head over to the salad bar and grab some shredded cheese (add as little or as much as you want) and any other toppings you desire. Now take your masterpiece to the microwave (located near the coffee) and heat up your pizza (to help melt the cheese). VoilĂ , your very own Pizza Bagel!
  2. The “Salmo Flurry:” I’m sure all of our readers love McDonald’s McFlurries. So why not whip up your own at Salmo? Grab a “to-go” cup located near the coffee. Choose which ice cream you’d like (soft-serve works best), then add whichever toppings you’d like from the sundae station. Grab a spoon and mix it up until its smooth with chunks of M&Ms, marshmallows, or any other topping you’ve chosen.
  3. Loaded Baked Potato: Nothing appealing on the dinner menu? Head to the vegetarian section. No, we aren’t asking you to become vegan, BUT you can put together a delicious baked potato with all your favorite toppings. Start by heading to the salad bar and grabbing some shredded cheese. Some other toppings to consider before heading to the microwave are: pasta sauce (pasta section), bacon bits (salad bar), or other vegetables (vegetarian section or salad bar). Throw your perfect combination in the microwave for about one minute, and suddenly you have your very own loaded baked potato. The salad bar also has sour cream for those of you who want a final touch!

  4. Cucumber Sandwich:
My personal favorite dish to create in Salmo is a cucumber sandwich. Grab two pieces of your favorite type of bread (near the toasters) and add a thin layer of cream cheese to one piece. This can be a simple sandwich with just cucumbers or you can get as intricate with it as you’d like. Sliced tomatoes go well. OR after spreading the cream cheese, shake a thin layer of bacon bits over it, then grab the cucumbers, spinach, etc. This is a perfect alternative to a meat sandwich (minus the bacon bits of course) for any vegetarians.
  5. The “Ultimate Nachos:” Why depend on Rentes for delicious nachos? This is easiest to accomplish on Taco Thursday when they have the nacho chips, but you can usually find chips near the salad bar. Starting with chips, load up on a layer of shredded cheese (or nacho cheese if it’s Taco Thursday). If you want to stay simple, head right over to the microwave. Otherwise, head to the salad bar for bacon bits, peppers, onions, etc. OR if it is Taco Thursday, why not grab all the toppings offered for your tacos? You’ll be so close to achieving Rente’s Nachos you won’t go back to tacos!
  6. Parfait: For those early mornings when you want a simple but tasty start to your day, try creating your own Yogurt Parfait. Mix yogurt, granola (located near the yogurt) or cereal, fruit and some nuts from the waffle stand. If it’s plain yogurt and you want some flavor, try adding a little honey from the coffee area.
  7. Ice Cream Sandwich: You know those delicious M&M Ice Cream Sandwiches you can buy at Scoops? Why not make your own? Grab two cookies, add a scoop or two of ice cream and M&M’s, sprinkles, etc. and BOOM your very own ice cream sandwich (all found in the ice cream section).
  8. Peanut Butter Banana Sandwich: This one is pretty self-explanatory. Using the bread from the bagel area, peanut butter (found to the right of the toasters) and some bananas (usually near the “Hydration Station) you can create a delicious, tasty meal in no time.
  9. Buffalo Chicken Salad: Salmo offers this about once every month, but why wait around that long for it to make its presence? You can usually find buffalo sauce every day, although the location is constantly changing (usually with all other condiments of the day). Create any type of salad you’d like (at the salad bar), starting with lettuce and chicken. Then, rather than adding dressing, load up on buffalo sauce instead. If you’re interested, add some ranch dressing for even more flavor.
  10. Brownie Sundae: Lastly, make use of the obvious. Every day Salmo has an assortment of deserts. Grab them and throw some ice cream on top. Add the works to make it a grand sundae (don’t forget about the bananas). If it is brownie day you DEFINETLY want to try this idea. Make your sundae just a little more special by throwing a warm chewy brownie into it.

There you have it! 10 Not-So-Typical Salmo Eats to “spice” up your meal routine. Have other faves? Post them below to let others know how to make the best of their meal plan. Forget about skipping Salmo for another J’s Deli trip, try these alternatives to make your meal plan worthwhile!
