This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bryant chapter.

With the beginning of the new semester, Her Campus wanted to give the readers a peek into Greek Life’s new presidents of 2021.

We have interviewed the eight presidents of Greek Life, so that you can get to know a little more about them and their organizations. They discuss their chapter and experiences, along with their organization’s goal during the Covid-19 pandemic.

This is the interview of Melissa Lomuscio, the President of the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority.

A Little Bit About Melissa:

Hometown: Fair Lawn, New Jersey

Grade: Junior

Major: Finance & Applied Analytics

Minor: Psychology

Fun Fact: She is a writing tutor on campus.

The Interview:

HC: Why did you run/want to be President of Alpha Omicron Pi?

ML: Being a sister of AOII, I have found so many mentors and role models throughout the chapter in the last two years. No matter what I needed, whether it was help with creating a resume or just some well-needed life advice, there was always a sister who could give me guidance and offer genuine support. I wanted to run for president to be that same mentor and role model to the chapter that older girls were for me and help to inspire them and empower them to be the amazing women they were meant to be.

HC: What do you want to accomplish in your term(goals)?

ML: During my term, I hope to reimagine the AOII experience for our members. Covid-19 has brought to light the importance of sisterhood as well as the importance of giving back to our communities. With that, I want to develop new and innovative ways to strengthen our sisterhood and our connection, outside of typical sisterhood events, and to emphasize how important our support system really is. I also want to help our chapter establish new philanthropic events and make new traditions to give back to organizations and charities, both for our national philanthropy as well as others.

HC: What are some events that you have planned/what are you looking forward to?

ML: Our events will look different this year due to Covid regulations, but I am excited to use this as an opportunity to reimagine them and improve them. We have different philanthropic events planned, such as our Sisters for Soldiers event and our National Arthritis Walk. We also have many different sisterhood events planned like our Founders Day celebration and Sisterhood Retreat. Although most events may be virtual, I am looking forward to finding ways to connect our chapter though them and make them a success!

HC: What is your favorite thing about Alpha Omicron Pi?

ML: My favorite thing about Alpha Omicron Pi is being surrounded by ambitious, strong, genuine women. Although that might sound cliche or simple, it is so impactful to be surrounded by women that are everything that you aspire to be. They inspire me to be kind, inclusive, and embrace who I truly am, and I am so thankful and blessed to have them. ?
