MADD Mocktail Competition

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bryant chapter.

Deciding to be a designated driver doesn’t mean that you can’t have any fun drinks! On Monday April 13th, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) partnered with Bryant University’s Greek life committee Greeks Advocating for the Mature Management of Alcohol (GAMMA) and held a Mocktail Competition on campus to encourage awareness of the dangers of drinking and driving.  Each team was tasked with making a responsibility themed non-alcoholic drink, present it to the judges, and give a taste test. The winning group was Tau Kappa Epsilon with their Designated Driver made with kiwi, pears, lime juice, simple syrup, and soda water! Other chapters made drinks such as the Safety First Sangria, See the Next Sunrise, the Sparkler, the Sigma Slide, and the Designated Dawg. Everyone did an awesome job making a unique and tasty drink to show the judges.

Before the winning team was announced, the four judges discussed the dangers of drinking and driving and how to continue promoting safe decisions. Renee Weidele, a MADD representative and judge at the Mocktail Competiton, stated “We are so proud of you all for coming here during your Greek Week. What you’re doing as an organization is so admirable.” The mocktail event served as a kickoff event to Greek Week to remind Greek life members and the campus to be responsible.
