Juniors Explain How to Survive SIE

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bryant chapter.

Sophomore International Experience serves as one of Bryant’s most successful programs. Students earn 3 credits through this course, which culminates in a two-week trip to a given country of the students’ choosing. With five Sophomore International Experience (SIE) trips right around the corner, we spoke with some SIE veterans and asked them for the best advice they had on how to survive your weeks abroad.

  • Grace-Ann Onishea, (Germany and Spain)“Take a lot of photos and be open-minded. Try new foods. Take a “yes-man” philosophy.”
  • Danielle Bergner (Italy)“Bring an adapter that is sure to fit [the outlets of] the country you’re going to. Be sure to have a lot of cash on you and invest in a pocket translator in case of emergency.”
  • Shannon Foglia (Italy)My best tip is to sleep while you travel! Although it seems like a while, two weeks is a short time to explore everything you want to! Make the most of it by avoiding naps, staying out late, and getting up early. Do your sleeping on the bus rides from place to place! Side note: if you’re on SIE Italy, you’ll be drinking lots of espresso!

Make sure your luggage fits the size and weight requirements of your airline, keep your batteries charges, and take lots of photos! Let us know your favorite SIE moments or tips in the comments below. Safe travels, collegiettes!
